I'm glad Frank's okay.  I have to agree with JTF.

1)  Having a camera ready is a good idea.  If you see a boater acting like a jerk or approaching too close just take a pic anyway.  It might make assholes think twice if they see a camera.

2)  Always expect a wake when a boat goes by.  I often staddle my yak for better balance when I see one coming.  I try to be prepared for capsizing by keeping my deck clear and everything put away and/or leashed.

3)  Avoid confrontation.  It's not worth it.  I'm content just knowing that I have a slap gaff, a big billy club, and a rocket flare for self-defense.

Boy, that's the pits, Frank! I'm glad you survived that idiot's sick humor and then the gnarly fishing conditions that followed. Whatta a guy!

Some of the Coastsiders are talking about this...apparently a few of them don't believe your story:

Let's not manufacture controversy where we don't need it.

I read this thread on coastside and most contributors seemed pretty reasonalble and more interested in finding the facts to the story than they are in debunking it.

Thanks SCWAFISH and Pierre for representing and esp Alan Tani for introducing the thread.  Some of the big guns at Coastside seem empathetic and sounds like all would like to help ID the offender.

I'm just glad Frank is OK.  We HAVE  TO come up with another nickname for Frank, Maybe Aquaman?

Ya, I just came back from that site, they seem genuine in concern about this situatuion. There a few "odd" coments, but it's a big board with a huge amount of people so your going to get a bigger variety of opions.

Anyway, again glad Frank/Insane are OK.............Danglin

Just a quick note. Allen is right my opion about someone else is exactly that a personal opion. If my family were out with me i'm am sure ,like Tote, that I would have had to camp at the launch and wait. But then again those of you who have gotten to know meknowthat would have been ill advised ( this would have been written on county internet the or state ) if you get my drift.
Please consider that I have ownly been doing this for just under a year with the benefits far out weighing the negatives.I do not think that people who endanger others are those I wish to share time with besides there is way to many fish to catch without having to hunt Assh#@$%.
I was in good company once again and know how to self rescue myself, having invested the time in our sport. Thanks for you support and concern but i'm cool and need to look at an alternative Yak for this aspect of fishing.

sorry to hear frank, glad i wasnt there , because i know my temper and that #@%@ is unacceptable!!! did you lose any gear?
most of the people on coastside sound like they were bummed to hear as well, though it amazes me that some dont think that there are dums#@#@$ out there that are capable of this kind of behavior!!!!!!!!!!!

on a lighter note......duane, bummed i didnt make it out to meet ya yesterday.it looks like your homemade kayak improvements are cutting edge and are about one step away from being copyright worthy(i be the next crab trap guinea pig.)

By the way, another boater that was coming out at the same time did in fact come to my assisstance and ask if I needed they'er help. They witnessed the whole thing and were very curteous and kind. So if your out there lurking a Big Thanks for the assist. These are more the boater that I would love to meet up with someday.

frank, i hope you didn't mind my taking the discussion over to coastside.  i did it for several reasons.  first, an osprey with twin outboards is not a common boat. a call into kelly or chris at the SF boat and motor mart at oyster point could get you a very short list of owners.  and has heavily traffiked as coastside is, i would imagine that the owner of said boat already knows that his vessel will soon be identified.  two, these guys need to be made more aware of kayak traffic in the area.  they, we, are indeed responsible for anything in our wakes.  sending a man overboard like that requires that you stop and render assistance.  maritime law is very clear on that point.  i had also hoped that with me posting the incident, the coastside faithful might be a little less likely to simply call bs and end the matter at that.   not that i'm some great pooh bah over at coastside, but an incident like this must be taken seriously.   :smt012

i've got 501 parts.  do you want another one?
