About three years ago I paid a premium of around $200.00 for an economy plus seat on United Airlines - specifically because they advertised it provided more leg room.  When I sat down in my 'premium seat' I put my bag and backpack in the overhead compartment.  The flight attendant came by and said put the backpack under my seat.  I said I just paid 200.00 for extra legroom.  He told me move my backpack or he'd have me removed from the plane.

These assholes have been getting away with all kinds of bullshit for a long time.  Fuck United Airlines.

I dislike United; too damn expensive and they have issues. I avoid them like the plague and use other airlines. Love Alaska as well as Southwest.

If they weren't a member of star alliance and I didn't have a gazillion miles there (and a penchant for flying Singapore air on those miles) I'd never fly with them. As it is, I'm stuck.

Stock prices fell 250 mil  overnight.     :smt044

Of course they'll do a PR blitz, and lower prices which makes everyone forget quickly...

How does putting a backpack under your seat restrict your legroom?

This is a safety issue how?  Seems more like a storage issue, not a safety issue.

Because it is on a commercial airplane, and EVERYTHING on a commercial airplane is either a safety issue or a security issue.  If you don't like that or agree we will be happy to re-accommodate you.

I ain't biting.  Sarcasm!

You have choices.  I cannot fly with anything under the seat in front of me.  I just don't fit.  I've politely explained that anytime I've been asked to put a bag in front of me, and it has never been a problem.  I also only ever have 1 carry on, so they don't make an issue of 1 above and 1 below.

Well the guy just dragged off the plane because of overbooking (wanting employees to fly instead of paying customers) will be getting a big pay day.  And big payouts is usually what it takes for big Companies to make changes.  I never understood how you could be allowed to overbook a flight.

At one time my wife couldn't make a trip and I had a non refundable ticket.  So I opted to have an empty seat next to me and they wouldn't allow it even though the seat was already paid for.  I said fat people can buy two seats why can't I.  They still wouldn't let me and of course the person who ended up sitting next to me had a carry on cat that cried the whole flight.  I must have been a lot calmer in my younger years because if that happened now I would have been dragged off the plane myself.

I have flown a lot, and my tolerance for bullshit has plummeted over the years.  It only takes once.  These days I will generally avoid flying commercially if possible.  I could easily see myself getting dragged off of a plane if I was put through some of these indignities that have been coming out in the wake of the United beating.

I don't understand why they didn't just keep upping the price to pay people to leave the plane. It sounds like they offered $400 and then $800, and then went to random selection. Why not try $1200 or $2000? Would have been a lot cheaper than beating up a passenger and losing $250 million in market cap in a day.
