lunchtime chitchat about lucky finds. one of the workers said his wife found a change purse at a strip mall parking lot many years ago right before Christmas with 300 plus dollars in it and kept it. I asked him if they made any attempt finding rightful own.
er and he said no she didn't
I was disappointed with his wifes judgement as it might have been somebodys Christmas money and would have made for a sad Christmas. figured I'd Google lost and found to see if anything came up and behold there it was. :smt001

The "I've got mine, so you can go fuck yourself" attitude is quite pervasive here in the States of late.

Perhaps they prayed for the owner of the lost wallet to ease their conscience  :smt044 :smt044

I agree with Archie - sadly, morals and ethics are absolutely optional in this land.

What goes around comes around, so sad that people have to be this way.

No it doesn't. That's just what people tell themselves to feel better. There is no cosmic karma (other than the fact that we will all die), there are only repercussions to actions... sometimes.

What ever happened to the golden rule?
It's easy when you treat others how you want to be treated.
 Plain and simple.

Judging from its title, I thought this thread would be about gourmet special mushrooms  :smt044
Depending on circumstances, if you find money you need to make "reasonable and just efforts to find the owner."  Cal. Penal Code 485.

It has been perverted by American brand Christianity to read something like: Do unto others that which benefits yourself, then pray for God to clean up thy mess.

Ahhh, the human condition... My brother in law in Finland (yup!) lost his bike key on a friday, caught the bus home. Bike was locked up in the center of town all weekend.  He returned to work on monday to find someone had not only FOUND the key, But also put it in the lock! Bike lock and key were all there on monday when he went back to work. That is why I like this little NCKA community. We seem to have gathered the ruffians, rascals, drunkards, misfits, nerds, brains, and boring normal folks too, Into one special group. Amazes me when folks find stuff in the ocean and search till finding the owner. This is a special place. Winter/summer rants, stupid shit posts, all seem to fall by the wayside and end in ribbing jokes (for the rest of eternity) I won't be the one to judge the finders keepers club. But I sure build respect for those that make it a game/Quest to find the owner for the story of the loss or to meet a new person and have a beer together.... Here's to the seekers of the lost! :beer3
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

If you have the owners name, i'd pitch in 20 bucks to "return" the 300 to them...might not make up for a shitty xmas last year, but might be a nice gesture of the goodness of humanity

If I didn't earn it or it wasn't given to me by someone else then it isn't mine; it's someone elses. Period.
Do your best to find the rightful owner.
I remember finding a wallet in the shitter at Van Damme. I stopped counting at $400. Started calling out the dudes name until I found the rightful owner. I was glad I found it and not someone else (CDM was there, nuf said)  :smt044
Having said that, if I find a brick of several hundred thousand dollars floating OTW
rest assured I am not going to find the owner but be glad he lost that money.

That's exactly what I saw when I read the title for the first time!
