Right now the current swell forecast looks pretty good.

We just need to worry about the wind...

You are way cool to fish with Adam, but still, I would be outside Mavericks or elsewhere just dealing with the combined seas and wind...  I wouldn't wanna have to stay in the harbor   :smt009    that would suck if a big 12" croaker won the tourney...

The species are pretty clearly defined, so a croaker can't win.

Craig I am not sure why you are still concerned about the swell. The latest forecast has it at 3-4 feet on the summer scale which is practically non-existent.

It's probably a NW wind, which means the whole southern side of the jetty will be calm. It must be a mile long, at least.
I believe the following weekend is the annual Coastside derby.

Bill,

The latest forecast from NOAA is still not looking pretty. Do you have more current/reliable info?

Even with the ugly forecast, there will be plenty of cover in the lee of Pillar Point

I am getting my forecast from storm surf, I find them a bit more reliable than NOAA for swell forecast at least. Here is the link to what I am looking at:

http://www.stormsurf.com/cgi-bin/4cast.cgi?ID=enp.46012

What link are you getting yours from?

Bill, I was looking at what Scott posted which is the forecast I usually find accurate (they have since revised it to 6-8ft), and I agree with you, swell isn't likely going to be a problem either way, the winds would be the main culprit I think.   Maybe we can find water protected from wind there.  The croaker comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything - sorry, and thanks for the note on its exclusion from qualifying.

Here's the weather link:

Buoys:

Thanks for posting yours - would always be good to have different angles to look at things from!

Don't be so sensitive Craig!  :smt003 I am just typing short cause I am exhausted...

The NOAA forecast covers such a large area that I find you have to translate it for the spot you are fishing. 20 NM offshore is a long way from where we will be...

Also the Monterey bouy is a generally not that good for HMB, I have even found it lacking for Monterey Bay given that it sits out in the middle of the bay and gets hit by everything all the time...

Anyways let's all hope for good conditions, I will talk to Chuck tomorrow about how we want to handle it if we need to postpone.

I know it's only Tuesday, but would we fish in these conditions...?

.SUN...NW WINDS 20 TO 30 KT. WIND WAVES 4 TO 7 FT.
NW SWELL 8 TO 10 FT.

Sorry if I am the only one who's curious...  Just wondering where the "fog or other unsafe conditions" line would be drawn, for planning purposes...  I suppose we'd get out there at 5am and check it out?

Just like Elk last year, survival of the fittest.  Although HMB is supposed to be an invitation for all the greehorns to the sport so maybe the conditions are so conducive for that purpose.
