Last year I stayed at the hostel just up the road. This would be an epic place to stay for the family etc.  and pretty cheap too.  I think like $20.

Check it out.

Half Moon Bay State Beach is another option - about 5 miles South of the HMB Harbor.

Quote
Half Moon Bay State Beach (650) 726-8820

- for those who want to be closer to the epic Linda Mar Salmon season
- HMB kayak crabbing / poke poling / rock fish opener
- surfer dudes

Ocean front camp sites / bathrooms and plenty of parking. Only 52 campsites (call for reservation). Walking distance golf range. Safeway, gas station, HMB Main Street and restaurants all within a mile!
Unfortunately, the beach kayak launch is TOUGH - BIIIG SURF!

camp site # 36,37,38,34,32,30,28,26,24,22,19,17, and 16 are the best - closer to the shoreline! I believe dogs are allowed as well.

The site is located a couple of blocks South of HWY 92 - off HWY 1.

HMBSB is full according to reserveamerica.com.  Only ADA sites left.  I may camp in the parking lot...  Not sure I'm just getting back from vacation on Fri Jun 8...

Bill's an executive and the President of a major fishing organization...  They wouldn't let me in the back door of the Ritz...  I'll have to stick to my popup...

While I did score plenty of WAF I felt like the Beverly Hillbillies when I pulled up in my beater 4Runner with my kayak on top. Queue the banjos! The staff was super nice though and treated my pretty much like the guys in the Porsches.  It will set you back at least one Hobie Adventure :-)

It looked like there where some decent places in Downtown HMB that will probably still get you WAF, nice farmers market on Saturday morning etc...

There's a fancy looking place on the highway above the boat launch by the new restaraunt. And there's a pretty standard looking motel behind the restaraunt across the highway at the light (very close to the parking lot where we'll be). Also, there a couple B & Bs over by Barbara's Fish Trap and HMB Brewing Company.
I'm hoping the salmon fishing will be good out at Deep Reef in early June when we'll be there. I think it's only a twelve mile paddle.

I think this will be my first fishing competition.  I will wake up early and drive up from Monterey in order to not spend WAF on a night of camping (better to save it for fishing).
