Hi!   :smt006

New here, but I've been reading the forums for quite a while.  Finally have something to write a report on, so here I am.   :smt001

Through NCKA, I was fortunate enough to meet Stuart, who helped me get set up for kayak fishing in Norcal.  We were talking this past week and since we were both free on Sunday, plans were made to hit the coast.

Sunday arrived and found us loading yaks on his van at dark o'clock.  A quick equipment change to change the chaffed mono on our rigs for new stuff and we were on our way.  Arriving at Monterey just before daybreak, we quickly set up & paddled out to the grounds.  Despite the wind, it was a great day and the action was fast and furious.  Before long, we were headed back in with limits of lings up to 15# and limits of rockfish/cabs.  With the closures, it's been quite a while since I've had lingcod, so I was happy as a clam.  :smt007

Here's a few pics of the catch.    :smt003

Hello!

Great pictures.... But!! :smt009

You may want to take this post down and read the regulations.

It seems Stuart gave you some very bad info.

Your nice catch might be overlimit and out of season! :smt010

"The recreational fishery for rockfish (Sebastes sp.) is open year-round to divers2 and shore-based anglers. The daily bag and possession limit is 10 fish in combination of all species within the RCG Complex (includes all species of Rockfish, Cabezon and Greenlings) per person, with a sub-limit on bocaccio (1 per person, minimum size limit of 10 inches total length, also included in the 10 fish RCG Complex aggregate limit). Yelloweye rockfish, canary rockfish and cowcod may not be retained (bag limit: zero). The fishery is closed to boat-based anglers through April 30, opening on May 1, 2007."

"Boat-based anglers are fishermen that fish from boats or vessels of any size or any other type of floating object, including kayaks and float tubes."

Sorry for the bad news.

I think Yakaholic is the same guy that caught the albacore at New Brighton Beach a couple years ago.

I found out who yakaholic is and believe me - these fish were taken "legally" = they were speared!  :smt063

Dude!
Divers can take rockfish year-round. Lingcod season for divers opened April 1st. Divers are allowed to enter the water via boat (or kayak).
He is completely within his right to shoot as many fish as the regs allow.

Thanks for the report and great pics, yakaholic! That is quite the plethora of fishies. I, for one, am super jealous! Especially of those vermies. Although one looks like a canary. Still jealous!

Thanks, and keep em coming,
PK

Dang, thread was foiled before I even woke up.   :smt011

To those concerned(and it's nice to see people that care about our resources), we were completely within the regs & all accounts are accurate.  Never mentioned how they were caught.   :smt002

Sin Coast, the pinkish one is a copper.

Yakaholic did indeed change the mono, but it was the  shooting line on his speargun!!

Doh! I saw "mono" and immediately assumed rod/reel.

Nice haul.
