4/7/07 Salmon?

Brian,

I do not plan to fish on Sunday so I will not be using the P15 that day.  Sunday is Easter and I am in demand at home unless I want to loose all remaining WAF and affection from my daughter for the forseeable future.       

surfline has SSW winds to 8 knots and light showers for saturday. swell coming up; straight west + south, not too big,
but not flat like it has been all week.

If I paddle out it will probably not be in the dark, that sounds too scary!

hey i live in soquel and was wondering what i would need to bring as bait, line #, lures, etc=) have never fished for salmon before on my kayak=) so all the advice before hand i can get the better i will be prepared=) thanks in advance Joe P

Joe - check the NCKA.org home page.  There are a bunch of articles and one of them has a lot of good info on salmon fishing.  You can also go to any good tackle store and they should point you in the right direction.  Mooching is probably easier for a beginner in terms of set-up.  (20# test, flouro leader, sliding sinker holder, weights from 2-6 oz or so, barbless circle hooks)...

I'll be in the green drifter, I met you once before Joel at Del Valle. That should narrow it down to about 300 people. What kinda refreashments do you all drink?

I really doubt that this thread can be revived, and I can see that Blue has an excuse for his tangents (or is faking the death of his fishing season so nobody will even look for him, let alone get a photo), but: Early in week when the weather was clear, a 6:30 launch would be light enough to be seen  without lights, but this morning in Capitola it was thick drizzly overcast and I wouldn't have gone out until near 7 without lights, so I'm going to fix up my lights and get some light sticks for tomorrow.  I could see about a  half mile out in the grayness by 7:30.  Dress warmly.

Trailer city in the Moss parking lot is growing but not as big as I have seen in years past on the Friday before the opener.  The new lot is looking nice.  Local news last night reported both ramps (new and old) will be available for launching boats.  They did not report any restrictions but did think that more ramps will eliviate some of the congestion launching and landing.  I was actually surprized how light it was by 6:30 this morning.  It seemed much darker last Sunday morning while rigging up my yak.  I do have light sticks and some extras if needed.  Just.......have.........to........make........it.......through........one.......more.....day......of........work.  Man it sure seems to be going slowly today, it is only 8:36 AM  .

Ahhh.... got stuck in a follow up meeting today so I won't get on the road until 6:30 roughly, with no major traiffic I should hit town around 8:30. I knew I should have called in sick today.

Joel, I got a couple steaks and the salmon is defrosting in the fridge.

I'll be drinking soda and water as not to mix the sea sickness pill. After the fishing though I am good for drinking whatever.

EXTREMELY foggy this morning guys. I had my windsheild wipers going the entire drive to work, from Marina to Monterey. And its still foggy!

I really wish I could make it out with you guys this weekend...I need to finally get this whole "going out into the salt" over with. The anticipation is killing me. Unfortunately I have parental duties this weekend.

I hope conditions for all of you are good and that you catch lots of fish but most importantly keep safe.

That is about as much work as I can stand before the opener.  I am heading home and will report about the status of the crowd at the lot in Moss after I get there.  Just a few more than 12 hours and salmon watch out, NCKA is coming.

The trailer lot at Moss is mostly full as of this evening.  It looks like a full on tail gate party.  There are still plenty of spaces where single vehicles (w/o trailers) can fit.

I might try Sunday if tommorow turns out great for you guys.
