Pinto Lake Planter Limit 3/25

Took the wife for a picnic at Pinto Lake and soaked some Powerbait from the bank for a limit of planter trout from 12-14".The weather was great and the bite was pretty consistent between 10:30 and noon.Saw a couple kayakers go for LMB and one 7# LMB caught from the bank using live minnows.All in all, a nice day and a chance to build up WAF points before salmon season while catching dinner.

Dinner...before being cleaned and poached with veggies,herbs and white wine in parchment bags.

Way to go. Too bad you don't get as many WAF points for fishing with your wife compared to a bathroom  remodel or other major home improvement projects.

Pinto Lake is a small lake in Watsonville, Ca.It gets quite a bit of fishing pressure because it is so close to town, but DFG stocks it pretty regularly during the spring.I spoke with a warden who checked my liscence.He said that  he has seen bass to 12# and carp over 17# pulled out of this little lake.Also, there is no swimming and the PB speed limit is 5MPH.Launch fee is 4$ and parking is free.

Good point on WAF.In fact, I had a bunch of honeydos (including cleaning and cooking fish) to take care of when I got home.

It never got windy at all.In fact it was so calm the instructor of the kid's sail class towed most of the kids back to the launch with a small Zodiac.The sails were moving very slow and mostly practicing turns and trying not to bump into each other.

Always looks soo bassy in the back but I hardly ever catch any bass there. Its strange. I haven't been there in over a year though. Last time I fished there, I was asked to leave because I was casually sipping a beer while dunking PB for trout (the only beer I brought with me)...and alcohol isn't allowed. I told the employee I would pour it out and throw the can away but she said it didn't matter and I had to leave immediately. "Those are the rules," she said. I told her it was a stupid policy to have people drive away in their cars because they were 'busted' for drinking. (Fortunately, I only had about two sips of my one beer.) So I drove down the street to the backside and fished there. Caught a few bass too!

I would like to take my kayak there for a bass attack soon though. Maybe one of these evenings after work (I can leave work as early as 3pm). Hmmmmmmm...

I've been known to catch a few,but I usually only report the good days so it's kinda deceiving.I've certainly done my share of paying dues...lost some fish and had slow days.I will always be a student of the sport.

Sin Coast, The beer rules are wack.In fact, it's illegal to have an open container almost anywhere outdoors in Santa Cruz County.If I want to drink,I just pour it into a sports bottle or fast food cup first.We have to keep it on the down low.
