Hey Y'all, I'm interested in getting some locking kayak straps and the guys over at ProKayakFishing.com have these:

http://kanulock.com/how-they-work/

At the request of another member I asked about a group discount. They've generously offered 20% off if we come up with 20 buyers.

This is a list of those who are 'IN" so far. Please confirm quantity.

They look thick and durable. Any idea how long these straps would be? I'd definitely be interested.

They have several different sizes. I'll probably go with the 13 footers.

Cheaper than coming out to a stolen yak.

My buddy bought some of these to lock his yak and sup up while he and his wife dash in and out if restaurants, stores etc in tahoe.  I like em, I'd get in on the group buy but I've already bought myself too many presents this season :)

I will stick to the cable lock through the scupper holes for now.

These look great because you need straps and they come with a lock. All in one.

If you are looking for something that cost less, this is a great option too. I have used this for about 4 years now, just keep it clean after contact with sand.

Ditto! I'm sure thiefs could find a way to cut the strap if they really wanted to steal your yak.

Yeah, as with any theft deterrent it's only gonna deter the casual, amateur or opportunistic thief. I'm approaching it like Victor... super convenient, able to stop for lunch or run into the store without being nervous and I'm already putting straps on it.

I just use the cable lock.  Not sure how much an integrated lock system improves over a simple cable lock.  I guess that they are less likely to fail over time than standard straps?

However you go about it, definitely lock your boat up.  Someone tried to steal my kayak once while I was at the dentist office.  The cable lock saved my boat.

A buddy (bensyak) gifted a pair and I've been using them for 3-4 years. I can't imagine leaving the yak or portabote outside without them. Just be careful about throwing the strap over -- throw the end piece and not the lockable one or you might bust a window.

They can also double up if you need a longer length and that's what I do when I lock/strap the porta.

Cheaper than coming out to a stolen yak.

Cable lock through the scupper always and around the cross bars. For security and redundant support on top of the straps.

If the yak is on top of the truck there's always a fat cable lock on it. When the yak is off and I'm ITW the cable locks wrap around my hullivators.

I bought a SUP this fall, and since there is no scupper hole in it, I bought these straps - I got the longer ones with the yellow ends that I see from the site you cited sell for 109 - I got them from Covewater Paddle Sports in SC for 90, I believe it was.
They are really thick straps with what I guess are two flexible thin cables in each  and would really slow a thief down, though the key to the lock looks pretty simple, so I wonder how strong the lock is.   I've used them on the kayak, but they are heavier and bulkier to stow (if you have to portage quite a ways from your vehicle) than the usual non-locking straps.  I brought my cable lock along in case I had to be away from the vehicle for more than just a few minutes, because that looks more impregnable.   If I was forced to leave my yak overnight anywhere, I have a long tow cable that I could lock to a solid part of the car and the kayak, because I'm not sure how easy it would be to pry the racks off and take everything. But if they are willing to do that, they are pretty dedicated, and haven't realized that my old but beloved P-15 is only worth $500 or so on the legitimate market
As someone with some experience with thieves told me once, an over-simplication I'm sure, people steal because they don't want to work, and if you make it look like it's going to take some work to get your stuff, they will hopefully pass it up.
I just have to work very hard at remembering to get all my gear into my car before I head for home, and not leaving findings for keepers.

Harbor Freight sells a  Driveway Motion sensor for under 20 dollars...   You can put the sensor inside the kayak,,, keep the alarm in your hotel , or take it into the dentist office   :smt002 ...

Anybody tries to move the kayak, the sensor tips over  triggering the alarm.

Battery powered?  If the range is sufficient, then that sounds like a good idea, especially if it has a silent mode.... That's when the harpoon comes out[emoji84]
