Mickfish,

Probably an idiotic question but how did you seal the wire entering/exiting the pelican box?  I didn't see any sort of fancy wire seal like in Sean's article.  Did you just use GOOP?  If so, has it worked well and did you go that route because of the limited space i.e. not room for a sophisticated wire seal?

battery pack use a snap lead or does it need to be hardwired?
Mine has a connector like a 9v battery

Also, I didn't see the "9-volt like connector" in your picture.  Is it hidden or did you remove it to hardwire the 10 aa holder to the two prong connector?

Thanks,

I just drilled two small holes ans siliconed works good put in a bucket of water and no bubbles came up.

Didn't see any difference between sealing wires or a wire seal except for a smaller hole and if I ever change it I only have 2 small holes in the box. I didn't even try to fit a wire seal.

Goop works well to seal the wires, silicone should do o.k. too, the box I use is a kitchen leftover container with rubber bands to keep the lid on. I put the box inside a small sandwich cooler and just toss it back inside the yak, and if I snag my pole on it, I just pull it out because of all that extra transducer wire they give you, but attaching it with a bungee inside sure looks more shipshape.
Also, and I've posted this before, don't drive around looking for "dialectic grease" - if you have an OSH, look for "lightbulb grease" in the lighting dept.- tho sometimes the clerks don't know they have it because not many people ask for it.   P.S.: Forget that, osh doesn't have it anymore.  I got some at the Honda watercraft place.
Remember to rinse off the plug to the transducer wire when you finish for the day, you might forget since it's inside the yak, but you'll wish you remembered when you have to buy and install a new transducer.  Put some extra fuses inside your box, tho I've never had one blow.

CRC makes an aerosol dielectric product, found in the electrical section in Home Depot. A little navy blue spray can about 4 inches tall. Mooch has posted pictures of this before.

Perhaps better yet, CorrosionX also well. Buy one of their spray bottles and do your electrical contacts as well as  protect and lube your reels for years to come.

Scott

Hi guys,

Just to let you know, the 10 AA battery holder from Thomas is not 5x2 (stacked), it's 10 in a row. No biggie, but I'll probably need a different bag or box...

Cheers

Ooooh, am I stoked!!! :smt041 Today I found 10 AA holders locally (for me, that is) for $1.72 each. Al Lasher's Electronics in Berkeley (University Ave.) had 10-12 of them.

On the other side of the bay, San Mateo Electronics Supply says they have the 10-cell holders for $3.45.  No luck in finding them closer to my south bay location though. :-(  I guess that's still cheaper than buying online and paying shipping...plus, if I get it today I can start the install tomorrow!  :smt003

Ah crud!  :smt012  I ordered my 10 AA holder Monday and just ordered my micro pelican box today.  This means that the battery holder won't fit the box.  I guess that's what I get for not being patient and waiting until the holder showed up.  Big hairy rats!  I might have three 10 AA battery holders for sale.

How about using a cell phone drybag that is long and narrow (my old one is 10" min. long and is foam padded)? Or, for that matter, just a drybag? Or, better yet, have I got a deal for you on 5x2 battery holders! :smt044

BTW: That Pelican box won't go to waste!

So my Thomas order came today and they ARE the 5X2 stacked!!!   :smt041 :kick   Yippee for me because it means the battery holder will fit inside my just ordered pelican box.  Hope I am not the reason that Alfredo and Bblat got the 10 flat instead of the 5X2 stacked.  Sorry guys!

Thanks for the kind offer Janice but it looks like everything will work out just fine.

That's funny. Glad to hear you got the ones you wanted. I sent them a email asking for an exchange.
If not, I'll make these work.

I find this whole scenario very peculiar   because it sounded like you placed your order before I placed mine.  Anyway, if they do not accomodate your request for an exchange, let me know, because I have an extra that I would gladly trade straight up.   :smt045

Thank you Michael, I appreciate the kind offer. I got a reply from them this morning, they said they would ship the correct ones out today.  :smt001

Stopped by REI for the dry bag. Picked up the large "See Pouch" made by Seal Line, $9.95.
Dimension is 5x8 in. Looks like a nice little bag. I was also temped and hooked into buying a dry bag for my ipod. I'm too weak for such temptations.
