You might want to check out the surf forecast.

http://www.surfline.com/surf-forecasts/central-california/santa-cruz_2958

The spot forecast for the harbor is 8-10' surf on Saturday and even bigger elsewhere. It's supposed to be down a bit from that on Sunday, but still pretty big. Anything over 6' at the harbor might make it dicey just getting out, not to mention coming back in...

So many source with so many different forecasts.  I usually go with NOAA as the bottom line (which currently is painting a very pretty picture).  Have surfline.com been pretty accurate for SC harbor?  A side note, for me, magicseaweed is good for Bolinas beach launch.

It's been my experience that generally any prediction over 6' surf for the harbor, and it could be more than you bargained for. Of course, YMMV.

Looked pretty good this morning. The waves have a lot of power behind them, but once you get outside it seemed flat...and surprisingly clear too.

What do people think about Monday?  Other than the NOAA forecasts which Yakyakyak linked to, most of the other sites indicate Monday looks even flatter than Sunday.

Anyone interested in ditching work on Monday??

OK, looks like I am going out on Sunday, NOAA shows a good improvement.  Launching from the F dock, sometimes between 6am-7.30am.  Gonna head toward Mile Buoy if swell is not too bad, otherwise hauling to SC3.  Give a holler, I'll be on channel 69.  Cloudy and hopefully ghostly to start the day.  Good luck all!

SundayVariable winds 5 kt or less. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny. WNW swell 3 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

BTW, according to the moon, Monday is best between 5am-8pm, definitely the better day so far.

I'm going out with sharklure on Monday and would love a report on the weekend. Particularly on any red tide that might be out there. We'll be on ch 69 Monday if anyone would like to join us. Good luck to you all this weekend!!

I got invited to help pull pots and RF with Captin Jimmy on the beautiful Miss Beth on Sunday. I can post a report as to where the fish might be.  I'll make sure we take a sonar look around the South Rock, the Mile Buoy and Maybe SC3.

We launched at 8:30. We saw one huge wave break at the harbor mouth right when we arrived, but it turned out it was just that one and there was no trouble getting out. A little ways outside the harbor and slightly West, our friend's fish finder started beeping and also indicated some sort of structure at the bottom, in around 35-40' of water, so we fished there for a while. However, we didn't even get a single nibble. We decided to paddle further towards Natural Bridges, but as we got to around Cowells, the swell was getting really big and the fish finder was pretty much silent. Right about the same time the fog rolled in so heavily that we could no longer see the shore! We went a bit further, but things were only getting worse, so we turned back. The fish finder hardly beeped at all the whole paddle back, but we did have a whale breach right near us and another a bit behind us, that was exciting! There was some swell getting back in at the harbor mouth, but the breakers were very infrequent, so no trouble getting back in. We ran into gtnotte at the boat ramp and enjoyed chatting with him (Hi gtnotte!) I also asked several other fishermen (1 in a kayak and the others in small boats) how they did and nothing seemed to be biting for anyone. I didn't see indications of red tide anywhere, so hopefully that's over.
