What do you guys think about the weather for Santa Cruz either 11/12 or 11/13?  Any intel lately on fish?  'thinking about fly-lining squid in upper column and slightly above the bottom.  'hoping for a miracle.

We're planning to launch out of the SC yacht harbor (main side with harbor office/boat ramp/etc.) on Sunday the 13th at 8:30am.

I'm new to fishing, but read on here various ways to rate the fishing conditions and Sunday looks acceptable. Swell around 5.5ft@14 seconds, so swell is less than 1/2 frequency which is one criteria people have mentioned. Wind is around 4mph so swell + wind is less than 15, which is another criteria to look at.

We plan to head towards Natural Bridges, probably fishing somewhere between the wharf and natural bridges where we can find some kelp beds.

I (Liz) will be in a yellow Caper and Craig will be in a red Hobie Revo. We'll probably have a couple other people with us but I don't know their boats. We'll be on radio channel 68. I haven't yet met anyone from NCKA so it would be great to meet others if we're out at the same time! We'll probably be in the parking lot around 7:45am-8:30am. Please come say hi to us if you're there!

Keep an eye on the weather reports

SAT
W WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT...BECOMING
3 FT. W SWELL 8 TO 10 FT AT 16 SECONDS.

SUN
W WINDS 10 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. W SWELL 6 TO 8 FT.

big swell can make for dangerous conditions.  Mostly though, it puts fish off the bite.  Once the swell drops give it a couple days, and fishing 50-80 fow should be productive again. Whole squid is a good bet for bait.  Everything eats squid.  But that includes the nuisance fish that will ruin your bait, so bring plenty.  We will see an increasing number of lingcod as they move in for spawning season.

PS for Liz, May I suggest you guys monitor CH 69?  that is the channel most nor cal kayakers use for commo's.

Bushy, thanks!  I noticed that the swell has been on for awhile, so I am hoping the fish should be hungry by now :)

JohnnyAB, you got it, I am a believer of miracle.

LizN, if I go, I will launch earlier and will be on CH 69.  Sunday is the current prime candidate, 'thinking about Mile Buoy or SC3, but place and time/date are TBD at the moment.  I will be in a yellow Santa Cruz Raptor G2/red jacket/blue PFD.

Crazyfisher, lol ... wanna go?  'will do a full report if I go.

You might want to check out the surf forecast.

http://www.surfline.com/surf-forecasts/central-california/santa-cruz_2958

The spot forecast for the harbor is 8-10' surf on Saturday and even bigger elsewhere. It's supposed to be down a bit from that on Sunday, but still pretty big. Anything over 6' at the harbor might make it dicey just getting out, not to mention coming back in...

I haven't gone in a while for several reasons (some good and some bad...) and I was thinking to give it a try. If I go I will most likely launch from dock A and will be on Ch69

So many source with so many different forecasts.  I usually go with NOAA as the bottom line (which currently is painting a very pretty picture).  Have surfline.com been pretty accurate for SC harbor?  A side note, for me, magicseaweed is good for Bolinas beach launch.

I agree with you on the harbor mouth condition, a mad dash ain't going to cut it in SC's mouth if swell is bad.  'gonna have to check this out again tomorrow.

Here is the NOAA forecasts, Sunday looks very doable.

Just watching from shore the last few days, the red tide seems to have diminished quite a bit, but thats just in the surf zone where the faces of the inside waves has turned from rust to gray color.   For a couple of weeks, the red tide has been so bad it made the air smell sour with a hint of dead anchovies.   That's mostly gone now.  And a lot of kelp has been tossed up on the beaches.

According to this recently updated forecast, there is a pretty big surf on Saturday, and the wind is supposed to be up (Though this site is less reliable in predicting the wind in the fairly sheltered SC end of the bay (Where we get an eddy effect.), compared to more open parts of the coast like Davenport - the forecast covers a wide area.).  The Point & Click is better at predicting the wind at specific spots.):
