Here's my 1st try of making my old  Promar TR-102W DFW compliant.  Took out the 3 old stainless clips out and replaced with cotton twine with a hook and bungee.  I couldn't close it as good as with the 3 original clips.  I need to play around with it some more.

Haven't tried mine yet but figured it wouldn't close as good with only one instead of three fastening points.

Thanks for the update Mel.

If it really bothers you, then put 3 cotton fastening points!

"(2) untreated cotton twine size No. 21-thread or less, except that traps used to take Dungeness or rock crabs are limited to a single strand of untreated cotton twine size No. 120 or less;"

Doesn't this limit you to only one strand?

If so I was thinking it would have to be continuous.

Sure.  No issues there.  Make a big "W" or some other pattern that retains the single strand.

I also found the hook and bungee was snagging the traps nylon twine when I making a wrap to close it.  Planning to put shrink tubing on the crimps as a fix.

I also saw this at WM, only 5 lbs.  Pricey but well constructed and seems kayak friendly, 2 models, one with nylon or leaded rope for $20 more.

50% the time I just reach through the crab doors to get them out.  I have a feeling with the extra steps with the cotton, that percentage will go up.  Maybe figure out that "other way".

crap, whats wrong with the scotty trap ease?

I just placed an order on this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M4HT84/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was going to mount it to my h-rail on my outback. Was thinking of putting it up front, highlighted in blue but could put it closer to me where I have my downrigger (blue circle). I think either location, I can have leverage on pulling up the crab pots.

Let me know if its not a good idea and I should cancel the order :)
