Just got a phone message from Jason / jselli...apparently he was jogging along Crystal Springs....and long and behold, he spotted two kayakers fishing inside a cove  :smt118 Either these guys are clueless or they are related to some higher power :smt011

Anyway, I tried calling Jason back...ended up leaving him a message. Now I'm really curious

I'm curious too.   If they poached the reservoir then they're probably already locked up in the pokey.... but if we're allowed in then I want part of that action.  Imagine.... huge native trout and bass that have never seen a lure.

No kidding. But I'd rather go quail hunting with Cheney, than go for a drive with Teddy Kennedy :)

Crystal Springs is good fishing. But not nearly as good as Calaveras Res or San antonio Res in the East Bay.

Have you had the chance to fish this body of water?

Wow in my younger days I sneaked into CS 3 times and I could not imagine fishing better than that. I have hiked most of Sunol and around Calaveras and we did see a lot of large bass but didn't see any evidence of trout, was with a BSA troop so I couldn't fish it. :smt013
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

If they were clueless the snipers residing in the surrounding trees would have taken them out instantly.  I say they have connections.  The question now is were they catching?

They were likely SFPUC Biologists.  SFPUC has a Natural Resources Division which is (among other things) in charge of managing the fisheries on the lands owned and maintained by SFPUC. For a while they were doing this study examining the stomach contents of LMB to check on the rate of predation on native RBT and steelhead.

It's long been a dream of mine to fish Crystal Springs, a dream I'm sure many of us share.

Factoid: this was the first body of water in California where largemouth bass was introduced.
