Hi All-
Buddy and I were thinking of going down to Franks Tract SRA this weekend.  It appears that Franks Tract is not accessible except via boat and you'd need to launch from Brannan Island SRA.  Few questions.
  • Anybody ever fish from a yak in this area and have any comments?
How far is it from Brannan Island to Franks Tract?
Should I worry about tides?  If so, are incoming or outgoing better tides to get from Franks Tract back to Brannan Island?'
    Any other helpful tips/comments?

We are still trying to figure it out.  In reading the posts, it appears that Walnut Grove is hopping now with Salmon so that sounds intriguing too.  When we figure it out, we will share if anybody wants to join us.

Thanks all!

Have you looked at launching from a closer marina like Russo's in bethel island? Franks tract is my favorite spot for stripper fishing in the delta, that was from my pb though.

Thanks Toansta717 and ex-kayaker.  Those are great recommendations.  Unfortunately in checking the information for Russo's, they have a tournament this weekend so it'll be crazy.  Sugar Barge Marina looks to be like a perfect location!!  Any idea what their launch fees are?  I have a dual kayak trailer.

Russos is your bet. I used to fish franks tract on my kickboat sucessfully but the during spring when bass are start moving to shallow. Yes it is a tide factor since its a shallow area.

Go and invest in a Delta map. There are a ton of marinas you can launch from. Bethel Island is the closest you can get to Franks tract to launch.

If your intent on launching from Brannan, here's where I would fish....

It's the delta, fish what looks good.there are so many times I see an area and say I bet there's a fish in there, and bam fish on
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Thanks for the response all!  Great information!!!   I was looking at the weather for this Saturday and forecast is 10mph winds.  I heard that if there are winds at Franks Tract, it gets pretty rough in a boat, even worse in a yak.  Makes the decision to go down here not as appealing.  Will keep an eye on the weather.

I live on the Delta close by. Launch at Sugar Barge. I think it's $15.00 mellow launch and nice people. It's all ways windy but there are islands to hide behind. You'll get tide movement but it's not bad. Look on google earth. There's a yak tourney there on Saturday. Good Luck

Its been a year, but the last time I launched at SugarBarge, it was $5.  Just write 'kayak' on the fee envelope.
