My bad. I was going by this and I thought my fish looked more like the pink? I appreciate the clarification.

No worries dude!

The colors and patters on coppers can vary dramatically...

I have to verify entries in our DOTY comp so am used to looking at pics of them in all different sizes and color variations.

Here is a bunch of them if you care to look:

http://doty.norcalkayakanglers.com/speciesleaders/list_by_species/17

They look a lot different underwater and at depth too...see attached pics of my buddy harold's fat copper underwater and then above...

And I attached a pic of CaptainSloppyWood's fish from last year...can see how pink the pattern was...

Cool fish!

Jim

Excellent pictures and fish. Thanks for the info, that is the reason I joined ncka. I'm always willing to learn, and I like being around good people!

The ID guide big jim took photos of isn't available anymore.  Amadeo has one, maybe someone could link it since I seem to have misplaced it.

Correct ID gets important because there are a handful of zero take species - mainly canary and yelloweye off of mendo coast.  Chinas and coppers are both zero take in Oregon and like Big Jim said coppers vary widely.  Mis ID your fish a few hundred miles north and it makes a big difference.

Don't mean to harp, just trying to help.  ID can be a pretty big pitfall for the new guys.  Like, make sure you know how to tell a coho from a king before you go salmon fishing.  That ticket is expensive.

Yeah tapatalk and the standard desktop site don't play nice.  neither one renders the emojis correctly from the other.
