damn I guess I'll pay the extra couple dollars . I'm kind of lazy anymore but still enjoy fishing there. take a short walk up the Hill and they are good honest people.
Timber Cove still holds lots of good memories dating back to the 70s to present time. :smt001

Of course over the phone when put on the spot she's gonna say no change from $8.  Good luck on the next busy weekend. :smt005

If it really is $8 from up top at least folks that don't want to drop 23 can still go if they are not disabled and unable to pull the kayak up the hill.  If they are just out of shape well guess the extra fee is just encouragement.

When you guys talk about the walk up and down, how is it compared to Shelter Cove's hill? Never been to TC and I'm just curious.

If shelter cove was a kick in the nuts, this is more of a slug bug, from the Rock.

I'll help,

Compared to Craig I guess I'm a relative newcomer, first launch at TC was in 86, scuba and inflatables back then.  Wow what a zoo, TC wasn't a launch it was an experience, I can't write well enough to convey at all what it was really like but I'll just say "Good Times"

Crotchy (to put it nicely)owner Red or one of his crew would ferry you down and launch your boat with an old 4wd pickup converted to a flatbed (covered in mud/sand/gravel) with the fenders and doors just about rusted off. No customer vehicle allowed anywhere near the beach.

Used a sling on rough days or would just back into the surf if it was calm enough, on one of the back-in days the trailer sank into the sand and got stuck, as Red backed up the trailer just buckled up in the center where the tongue started to split into runners. Whole lotta yelling and cussing , but we horsed the boat back off the trailer and into the water then about 3-4 of us bounced on the trailer til it straightened out, seeming non the less for wear. (never quite straightened out but no biggie).

Thing is, seemed to me back then it was $20 to launch and that covered 3 guys all day, but being the calm cool and reasonable guy I've always been I was OK with it but my buddies used to bitch about it even split 3 ways.

"Used to bitch about it".......................some things are never gonna change.

I spend 100 just in gas to catch a fish. Maybe this means it will clear out the lower parking for me :smt007

I just got back from Timber Cove. First I'll say yes I had to pay $23 to take my truck down the hill. Then I'll say I'd forgotten what a zoo it is there. So many people crowded into such a small place. I got down the hill to unload my kayak without too much trouble. Walking down could be an advantage if it is busy down below. I wonder if we could pay 1/2 the vehicle fee if we walk it down. The fish cleaning station water is working. I wish I'd brought my filet knife & zip lock bags down so I didn't have to go get them at the end of the day.

After fishng I put my kayak on the cart and rolled it up to the parking/loading area. I had forgotten the thrill of trying not to slip and fall on all the loose sand etc. laying on the hard rock. As I get my kayak next to the empty spot I planned to park in, a guy in a van next to me says he's going to camp in that spot. I guess I was getting in his way. I explained the 15 min parking limit and I didn't think he could camp there. He said he paid for a beach spot. I guess he forgot to mention he wanted to camp in his van when he paid. Some other people were complaining that the cars had been parked longer than 15 min. I guess someone complained to her because a few minutes later she was at the top of the hill yelling for everyone to move their cars. A couple minutes later everyone had their cars off the beach. I had room to park and I loaded up and made it up the hill. I don't know what the beach camping policy was before, but they didn't leave a lot of room for day use.

I asked her if there was an area I could change out of my wetsuit. She said no but what a great idea that was to have a small private area to change in. That's going to be her next project she said. When all is said and done I'm not likely to try to walk my kayak up the hill. The fishing was good and the facilities are useable. I'd say the worst part was the size of the crowd squeezing into such a small location. Albion and Anchor Bay are 50 minutes farther. I'll have to think about it.

Brenda is "striking while the iron's hot"," making hay while the sun shines"... honestly the place is a zoo, dogs, campers and fires in the below lot. I bet she sees that it cant last forever so she's capitalizing. I'm really surprised the state, the coastal enviro-cops or some other national marine sanctuary people havent already put it in her ear. Plus ' how dare she make $ and some her clients take fish from the ocean. It belongs to society and it must be preserved. I bet its put into another national marine sanctuary or reserve by the end of the next Clinton regime. Fun while it lasted

I decided to give it another go. I got there about 5:30 and was otw by 6:45. It was another nice day otw. Flat ocean and no wind. The fishing was great. This time there was no big crowd. I don't know if last time was extra busy or this time was extra slow. They did have the big group AA meeting. Maybe they take up all the camping spots leaving less room for anglers and divers. The parking was still crowded but it was less busy on the beach. I hope she puts the extra money to good use and improves the road down the hill.

I should add I think the cleaning table was changed. I don't remember a problem last time. Now it is a stainless steel table with a small lip. You can't get your filet knife flat down on the skin side because the knife rests on the raised lip. Not good.

We went there Saturday.  It was packed.  My buddy had to park really far.  Lots of boats out too.  Apparently TC is so hot they don't want to fish the other countless miles of rocky coast  :smt004.  Anyways, its a beautiful and scenic spot, the fishing is good, and the drive is always nice.  I can handle paying the 20 bucks to launch there.  BTW, the posted 'guidelines' are very ambiguous, but my understanding is that you can drive down the road, launch, then park up top without having to pay extra.  The lady who owns the spot seems pretty nice too.  Everyone's gotta make a living.  If everyone complains she's going to end up selling the place and then someone is going to put a house there and no more fishing.
