As many on you have noticed Tomales Bay has been fishing pretty good this season.

With this added attention comes bigger crowds, less parking and frustrations at the launch sites.

Nothing gets the boaters more pissed than a kayaker hogging the boat ramp for a long period of time.

I know we have just as much right to use the ramp as anybody else but if we could remember to be quick and courteous, I think it would help keeping tempers down.

I personally setup in the parking lot and wheel down to the launch and try leave my kayak off to the side of the ramp.

To be honest I personal think its the touring kayakers (probably people from out of town) that are plugging to ramps. I witnessed it yesterday. Rude sobs but that's my opinion and my observation.
In the mornings everybody is looking forward the start fishing so tempers might be short.

Just a friendly reminder.  :smt001
Lets all go out there, chase fish and have fun on the water. Its hard to beat Tomales :smt004

It's always a good idea to be courteous.  You never know when a PB could help you out.

Good message Marcos.  I think this applies to all boat ramps.  Kayakers often have more potential launching sites than powerboats.  When I use a ramp, I try to be as quick about it as possible.  If it's a busy ramp, I'll often just dump all my gear onto my boat, then move it off to the side of the ramp before parking my vehicle.  No need to hold up the line at the ramp to set up your FF, rod holders, etc.

Great reminders.  I rarely use an actual ramp but will remember these tips if I do.

A another reminder is to only use boating lane (not sure if that's an official term) to cut through and don't fish in them as boats need the depth to not bottom out and kayaks can fish more places closer to shore. Not sure if that's an issue down there but I often see kayakers fishing or crabbing in the boating lanes up in Ft Bragg.

There is room on the outside edge of both ramps at Tomales where you can leave your kayak and it is not in the way of the PBs so you can run your wheels back to your vehicle. I agree with Marcos, set-up in the lot and wheel to the ramp.

Another thing is keep out of the channel. We kayaker like to spread out and it creates an obstacle course boats have to weave through.

You've obviously never fished Tomales.  :smt002

We launch at the west end of the parking lot. Fuck the boat ramp. Very chill up there.

The only times I've seen the ramp clogged with yaks it's been the commercial guys. They bring in 8-10 kayaks on a trailer and park right at the top of the ramp and sit in the way for an hour while they are setting up or taking down. It drives me nuts because I set up my Tandem Island in the lot then try to launch quickly to get out of the way. They really do act like they own the place.
