If you made it out today, how is (was) the fishing? I'm hoping to give it a try tomorrow.

sorry I never got back to you.  Pretty lazy after the islander and plenty of work around the house to do.  Wanted to fish today too but summer weekends are nutz around the beaches!  Probably head up into the woods and ride mountain bikes tomorrow.  Looks like you're slayin the beaches.....have fun.

I assume you mean the 3rd. I'm planning to be out there. I've got a radio you can borrow, but I'll be launching early.

For me, the bait was scattered, and I ended up with maybe 8 Spanish mackerel, 4 mackerel (including one jumbo), and just one lonely sardine. I mosied out to about 65 FOW well east of the mile buoy and then slowly worked my way back in further east. I got several lingcod, maybe 4 of which were keeper-sized (nothing big) and several rockfish, all released. No sign of halibut---did see a good-sized ocean sunfish (maybe 6' in diameter). I was back in the harbor by 11:00, as I had to go to lunch with the family. Probably, the halibut were biting later... Btw, it was a surprisingly turbulent coming back into the harbor.

Here's a short video. Unfortunately, the water spot on the lens makes the mola mola hard to see, but it was doing its best shark imitation.

I was out on my friend's PB yesterday and after getting our RF limits, we went to catch some macks and jacksmelts. We found a spot just south of the harbor at edge of the kelp. Saw quite a few takers, too. Saw a commercial guy on a 16' Bayliner catching tons of jacks and macks, went close to him and got a bucketful in less than an hour. Discovered a new technique ( for me anyway) that I copied and caught a lot of macks quicker.
