Dropping pots off on friday sounds like a plan. I'll arrive early on Friday and set up my camp at the BLM campground off Chemise mtn rd. I'll try to be on the shore by 2:00 for dust up. If I miss anyone I'll put a call out on 69.

PK,  Is this the same CG where we are planning to stay?

Wailaki and Nadelos campgrounds along Chemise Mtn. road southeast of Shelter Cove are good options for forest scenery and cheaper accomodations, but they're a good 10-15 minute drive from the boat launch and cleaning station, whereas the expensive, wide open field campground is a beer-in-hand walk from them - without having to worry about bears!  $27 vs $8 - proximity to the Cove is key if the sun's out and there's only north wind as is possible Saturday afternoon.

Just my 2 cents - I highly doubt my wife will let me camp out.  I'm hoping for all day Saturday fishing with lunch and late afternoon beers on the beach at low tide with the sun out - maybe get to stay the night and be home Sunday midday...

Current forecast for Shelter Cove area:

.FRI...SW WIND 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. W SWELL 10 FT. SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN. .SAT...S WIND 5 TO 10 KT...BECOMING NW. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. W SWELL 8 FT. CHANCE OF RAIN.

At this point I see Saturday afternoon into Sunday being the sweet spot of the forecast with the wind turning northwest and hopefully staying light as the swell drops to a nice 5-6' with some wide-open trolling action around the bell and out to the whistle if we can and we need to.  You guys will be loving it to get some pots out Friday or Saturday and get a soak.  Past the moorings and inside the bell is where people typically crab south of the Cove from what I've seen.  You'll want 60-80' ropes I'd say, but you may get some action with 30-40's as that's what I've had there and did OK.

Yeah, it's rough that it's only Monday!   :smt001

We're gonna stay at the "fancy" campground near the ramp. Its a little bit more money but the bathrooms and showers make it worth it. Plus, its so close to the action!

Sounding good.  I started assembling gear last night and am having a hard time focusing on anything else right now.  I can not wait to hit the water.

Can't take Friday off so I'll leave my house at 4:00am on Saturday and should be there around 8:00am.  I'm driving a Teal Tacoma with my yellow Mini-X "inside" my truck.  Will anounce my arrival on CH69.

Latest INTEL from my sources tell me 21 King Salmon have been taken at the cove so far. They're mostly three year olds. The bite was most active a few clicks south of the bell bouy at 40' deep. They were caught on blue and silver Krocodiles and Coyotes. I went around today to all of our local tackle shops and sure enough all the blue and silver in anything were sold out with promises of a shipment in by friday. Superstition or reality, I don't know but I damn sure got mine.

Did that guy say Mini X???

So, 8-12# average?  Sounds good!  How far's a click?  I've had so much luck just northwest of the bell that I can't get that spot out of my mind - I start there.  As for bait, I think a nice presentation of anchovie is always competitive with any lure, so that's what I'm running.  If anyone in our group gets a salmon this weekend it'll be a victory for all - I can't wait!   :smt001

I was wondering if anyone would post intel from the past few weeks since it has been particularly quiet on that topic.  I will check the local Santa Cruz tackle shops for blue or silver Krockodiles but will probably bring a few trays of anchovies or sardines as the go to bait.

Word.  but I am still thinking positive everyone instead of anyone but a small victory is a victory none the less.
