Hi all. My names Andrew and I'm located in SF. I'm an avid shore/rock fisherman looking to change gears and get into kayaking. Seasickness has kept me bound to the shore for most of my life until recently. I've learned that with strategic prep, I can have a successful puke free day on the water. I fish mostly plastics and swimbaits, while my girlfriend that is normally along with me, will fish bait.

Looking forward to learning from these forums and hopefully matching some names to familiar faces.

Welcome to NCKA, Andrew.  I've been a victim of seasickness all my life on powerboats - even on flat days.  I'm fine on my kayaks though - even in shitty water while tying knots or whatever.

Kayak = where it's at.  You'll soon be addicted I predict.  :smt001

What's up, Andrew.  I'm in SF as well.  I typically do more surf casting than kayaking (only because of convenience).  With the daylight being so long this time of year, I'll hit the beaches after work sometimes, but I'm almost always out on the weekends.

If you're interested, a couple of us are heading up to Albion this weekend (Fri - Sun) to fish for Rocks and Lings (and Godzilla).  Albion actually has rentals onsite (if you don't have one).  Might be a great way to see how that sea sickness hits you or not.  HMU if you're interested.  There'll be more trips up there if this weekend doesn't work out for ya.  Just figured I'd throw it out there.  http://albionrivercampground.com/
Regardless we should hit the beach some time for stripers or perch!

Welcome to NCKA!

Thanks for the greetings. Thanks for the invite as well, but I'm tied up this weekend so I won be able to make it out.

Good luck getting that PB

Welcome aboard Andrew. Good to hear that you've figured out a system that is working for you. One tip that I can offer is to try and remain aware of the horizon and not to focus in too much on the tip of the rod -- it seems to help keep oriented and to stave off sea sickness. Tying knots is another easy way to have sea sickness hit, so try to have some pretied rigs that just clip on to a swivel or duolock. Keep it simple out there and you'll have a good time. But don't worry, I think most here have delivered a hot meal to the fish before  :smt001

Cheers,
Brad

Great to hear that you've come up with a strategic prep that works, care to share it?

Nice looking Cabby, best eating RCG fish out there,
