Perchin this weekend

A buddy and I are thinking about hitting Manresa SB this weekend, probably Sunday.  The tides don't look that great for either day but since I'm working Saturday morning it'll have to be Sunday.  If anyone wants to join us feel free.

sunday is forecast big and stormy on surfline. grubbing might be difficult.

might make sense to build yourself a 5' tall rod holder from a length of pvc, then huck
out some bait on a circle hook.  guy I saw do this said he fishes even in big surf like this
and it's hard to see the bite, but often fish hook themselves.

I saw an interesting bayside report that said perching off the capitola pier was good during
periods of high surf, but not when the surf was down?

kind of makes sense. maybe you could try that if the beaches are inhospitable on sunday.

at least right now, the hole in the weather seems to be saturday morning again.

Yesterday NOAA was forecasting 13-18 ft NW swell. But now it is forecasting 9-12 ft NW swell. Saturday is forecast to be 7-10 ft.
If you go on Sunday, you should hit the outgoing in the AM.

And I have used the 6ft PVC rod holder technique before---it can work. Just make sure you use traingle sinkers to prevent them from moving around too much. Just bait up, cast out+put it in the rod holder, then start working a grub with another rod. You can use as many rods as you want when fishing for surfperch in the ocean.

I have a couple of 10' surf rods and sand spikes for each, so I should be good there.  The plan was the get there early Sunday & hit the outgoing tide as PK suggested, but Capitola as a backup sounds like a plan.  Thanks!
