I shot a long today about 25".as I was cleaning it I notice it has a lot of parasites  (worms)now is this the norm?is this why big jim lost so much weight from eating Ling sashimi?
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Very common. Nematodes.  I've seen them in salmon too. I make sure I freeze the meat before I eat it now.

It's common. I hold the fillets up to the light to find the parasites then I remove them. They are the reason I don't cook the fish whole.

So it's safe to asume that if consumed when the fish is not thoroughly cooked it'll survive in your gut?

Just cook it. They all have worms!

I'm willing to bet you shot that ling in a place that frequently has seals, sealions, or dolphins.
Like Notorious Big said "Mo feces; mo parasites"...or something like that.

that`s  why most Sushi houses in the U.S. freeze at least once before serving fish

You posted in the last thread we had about this when the Manteca Costco made the news for fish worms.

Yes, it's totally standard.  Pick them out.  Or not.

Yep, halibut black rockfish are the worst offenders when it comes to worms, in my opinion. But all fish seem to have 'em. I pull out the ones I see and I eat the ones I don't see.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I don't think I have ever caught a ling without a worm.  It seems like they all have it, especially the big ones.  Someone told me that the worms live in the fish gut and move into the flesh after the host dies.  So I tried to experiment by taking the gut out as soon as I caught a fish, but I still ended up finding plenty of them in the flesh.  I don't mind the worms but it freaks my wife out, big time.
