So... My Fujifilm xp55 is becoming unreliable, dosent like to turn on and off very easily sometimes takes two or three tries. Anyway, my question to ya'all is what do you use? I read the reviews online but I don't trust them and wanted some kayak tested opinions. Im talking point and shoot type cameras not go-pro style, just to be clear.

I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-TX10.  Shock-proof and waterproof to 5 meters.  I've put that thing through everything, from snorkeling in Mexico to sub-zero temperatures in the mountains, and it's still kicking after 5+ years.  I don't believe Sony makes that particular model anymore, but if their DSC-TX30 is anything similar, then you won't be disappointed.  To give you an idea of the picture quality, virtually every picture I post in my fishing reports is from my Cybershot  :smt001.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Why not a Gopro?  I've been using my Gopro3 Black lately & it takes pretty decent shots. It's good for selfies due to the extreme wide angle & if you leave it set on combo video/photo & set it to take continuous photos every 5 seconds or so you can end up with some different angle shots for variety.

I still might have to consider a Sony point & shoot though. Gotta admit all of Clayman's pics are amazingly good!

This guy on CL is selling his TX10 for $50. Looks like a good deal.

I use an Olympus Tough TG-4 when whitewater kayaking, kayak fishing, and snorkeling, and really like it.  An advantage of that camera is that you can easily make a water-resistant lens cap for the camera using a scope cover attached to the add-on screw mount for exterior lenses.  This lens cap will also protect the lens from scratches and thumbprints.

The white thing in the second picture is a piece of plastic with a short section of windshield wiper mounted on it to wipe water off the lens if I get water splashed on it.

The advantage of mounting a pretty water resistant lens cap on a camera is that when you go to take a picture, the lens is usually free of water drops.  Here’s a couple examples from whitewater kayaking.  After thrashing down through miles of continuous whitewater, I whipped into an eddy right above the “Rock of Gibraltar” popped open my lens cap, and took a picture of a friend running the drop.  Then I could close the lens cap, drop down to the eddy below the rock, and take another picture.  You can’t do that kind of thing unless your camera has a good lens cap.

I've been using the Pentax Optio W90 for about 4yrs now...everything from kayaking & underwater pics to family portraits and kids' baseball games. It is 1000X better than my old Olympus Stylus 1050. My next camera will be another Pentax, for sure.

Nope.  White Sands Creek, also called Colt Killed Creek, in Idaho near Lolo Pass.  A beautiful 16 mile roadless run with a lot of continuous Class IV to IV+ read-and-run whitewater.

I just bought a waterproof camera after doing a ton of research, so I have a pretty good gauge of what's out there if you have any specific questions.

For me it came down to the Olympus TG-4 or the Panasonic Lumix TS6. The Lumix takes far better video and was significantly cheaper, so that's what I went with. $200 from Adorama with a $25 gift card (got a float strap and a 32gb card with that). The lowest price I saw on the TG-4 was $305 I think.

The TG-4 has awesome macro capabilities and can shoot in raw - both things I would have liked - but my other camera can handle that stuff when need be. What I really wanted was a rugged little camera that could take good pictures and high quality video on the water/camping/etc. The TS6 does point-and-shoot stuff very well at a really good price.
