Anyone own and use one of these cots ?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oversize-Tent-Cot-Camping-Rainfly-Kamp-Rite-Hiking-Bed-Sleeping-Outdoor-Gear-/221996982777?hash=item33b00d21f9:g:in4AAOSwNSxVTxOA

Looking for pros and cons on this before I decide on purchasing one. Looking to use at GSX .

Thanks

Alex
Yes I use mine for the tourney campouts.
Pros
You don't need a nice tent site to sleep. Concrete, asphalt, rocks, stickers and the back of your truck will all work as a place to set up your tent. Small footprint when sharing a campsite. Doubles as a cot. Up off the wet or muddy ground.

Cons
Big, bulky and heavy when transporting compared to a 2 or 3 person tent. Difficult changing clothes etc compared to a larger tent. Can't sit or stand in. Your legs hang out when dressing / undressing, which is a problem if it is raining. Builds up a lot of moisture inside when you're sleeping.

Builds a lot of moisture with the rainfly or even with out it ?

Another con is if is raing, it is impossible to keep your sleeping bag dry when you get in all wet. You can't dry off before getting in, so you end up sitting or laying on your sleeping bag, possibly while soaking wet if it was raing hard.

I've always used it with the rainfly on. There are lots of doors with screens you can open if the weather is nice.

I should add that for comfort I always use my dreamtime camping pad in it. The tent has a foam "floor" to sleep on, but I've always had my pad. My pad is very thick so I don't know what it would be like with just the tent.
GSX for sure.  :smt006

As much as any other tent. I usually set up an easy up so I have coverage for a cooking, etc so the changing or drying off isnt an issue. Being able to get off the ground and the ease of set up and tear down trumps any other issue.

reviews of tent cot beginning to appeal to me. I've always liked Vans for camping there's no setup involved and it comfortably sleeps two. when its a spur-of-the-moment fishing trip with the buddies sounds like a much easier option :smt001

Don't set one up near the A-Hulls or there might be "rain" all over it in the morning  :smt044

Fuzz and Spinal Tap swears by them...

Yeah, when I'm camping by myself it's awesome.  You need good padding as the support bar on the bottom tends to find your back.  I use an old tri foldaway bed from costco and though it's got a bigger footprint than the tent cot, it cocoons nicely when I sleep.  It does tend to sweat but it's has such a small volume it tends to be very warm so I have my vents open.

We've camped on the beach in baja where the wind had the tent at a pretty scary angle and it did fine.

Bought one from a member here a couple of years ago. Got a rainfly on line. I really like the ease of setup, small footprint and comfort. I put a thermorest pad in it and it is very comfortable. It does build up a lot of condensation so leave vents open. Only drawback for me is the space it takes up in the truck and storage compared to a two person tent.

Looks like I will have to set up a hidden electrical barrier. I think electricity follows water. ( Beer )

Just got one and have used 2 nights with rain fly on and even with both ends open with the screens there is too much condensation inside. Great in all other ways but this really is a problem, not sure how it would perform without rain fly

The amount of moisture is influenced by the humidity and temperature. If you're summer camping it's not as bad. You can take a small towel in with you if needed. Just don't bounce around a lot or you might think it's raining.  :smt044
