I remember about 10 years ago talking to the manager of the Beach Comber Inn. She told me she was at the cove when the Tsunami hit Crescent City in 1964. She said that sea foam reached all the way up to Lower Pacific.

I'm sure you've met some old timers out there Eric. Ask around I'm sure you'll get some feedback.

There is also indian gold that was recovered from a spanish galleon buried in the hills around there somewhere.  The natives had a good amount of spanish coins (for no apparent good reason) and claimed to have a lot more before they were murdered. Rumors of the hidden gold have persisted for 150+ years.
This one is legit!

Another local legend worth reading about is Albert Etter.... That dude kept a phenomenal fishing journal.
Links please! I can't locate it online.

So I'm sick in bed with a cold binge watching scary movies and pondered this question. Could Shelter Cove be haunted?

I thought of this before a few years ago after reading Mario Machi's book "Gem of the Lost Coast". As I recall the book describes a few tragic events that occurred there that are "haunting" worthy.

So has anyone ever heard of such a tale? You have to admit its a perfect isolated setting for a Steven King novel.
I'd like to read the book if I can find one to borrow.

If I can locate my copy I'll bring it to GSX for you to borrow. If not I believe I saw it for sale at the Deli before.

Kinda off topic, but a scientist saw a ghost in a flowing white dress go into a building on the Farallones.  He thought it might have been an intern or someone else, but could find no one there.  That's from The Devil's Teeth.  I wonder why ghosts always come back wearing something flowing . . . .

I found his fishing journal while I was doing archive work for an agency. I think they are in the process of digitizing the archives, and I would like to see cool stuff like Etter's fishing journal and more made easily accessible to the public.

I bet there are other copies floating around somewhere. Perhaps a local historical society.. etc.

Found this on Ebay after a search. 10 bucks plus shipping.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gem-Of-The-Lost-Coast-A-NARRATIVE-HISTORY-OF-SHELTER-COVE-CALIFORNIA-Machi-BOOK-/172055781012?hash=item280f52de94:g:F4IAAOSwZG9WkEls

Oddly, this one also came up in the search.  :smt005

http://www.ebay.com/itm/D-V-D-MOVIES-DV489-HUMBOLDT-COUNTY-WELCOME-TO-THE-LOST-COAST-DVD-REGION-/262028086842?hash=item3d02174e3a:g:wuIAAOSwd0BV5Amd

That movie is sadly accurate and hilarious.  The local scenes are filmed in local places, just not the places that they are depicting.  Like the scenes at the beach in the cove are filmed in northern humboldt and stuff like that.

But its not a terrible movie, and that girl from the waterboy is kinda crazy hot.
