perching moss landing area feb 10 2007

I may hit that area for a little perchin'.

conditions are not ideal, but probably can catch a few dinks at least.

wind is SE but not too strong. probably offshore south of the harbour mouth.

just FYI if any of you perching pros are going to be out there.

Tempting...but it will be raining cats and dogs and it looked like victory at sea out there today.It was windy and all crossed up west/northwest.Great for building sandbars...not so great for perchin'.

surfline has a gap in the weather on saturday morning.  but it's a call I'll make that morning.

when you sit behind a desk all week, sometimes you just need to get out.

Secret river beach on Sat? Tide will be low in the AM and going down to 1.0 at 11:41.

I am thinking secret river yes. forecast: 5-7 SE wind and 6-8
west swell. low tide is bad for perching but it will cause the waves
to break further out. so the shoreline will be less dangerous.
lot of holes even at low tide is what I saw last time I was there.
reports of stripers...

sunday the surf is forecast to be twice as big.

so unless it changes a lot, saturday is the day, but I agree that
it is marginal even then.  I'll check the conditions saturday
morning via internet before I go.

the scariest thing is probably the traffic on 17...

EDIT: Thought I was doing the "very limited" population of perch fishermen on this particular website a favor by sharing some info. Obviously, I wouldn't post such detailed info on PFIC of FS or whatever other site you can think of. This site is different; the members are very knowledgeable and respectful. And thats is why I thought it would be nice to share (considering I've lived right here for so long and I've fished every sandy beach between SC and Big Sur). Also remember, this forum isn't viewable unless you register and get an account (unlike other sites). However, I will respect members' opinions that some info shouldn't be shared. And that is why I edited my post.

I will be at parking lot 1 I think, the portrero rd one. not too early.

there is also a parking lot 0, which puts you just south of the harbour.
the waves are the smallest there, but there can be some current.

I got my perch set up ready as well. I was thinking of going to Manresa and if it looks good maybe there. Then again I only wanna go there because I've surfed and watched the perch fishermen there and know a few of their spots. Is Moss much better than Manresa? Either way I'll watch the weather and hopefully be out there.

I feel your pain Aaron but then again it doesnt take many surf fishing trips to figure out where the fisherman are hanging out.  I grew up in Watsonville so have fished just about every sandy beach in the bay and for the most part the tell tale sign is State Park markers.  As these would be the natural places anyone would start,  there is not much of a secret.

most anglers will share terminal tackle secrets so that gig is up in a few trips as well.  The hard part in my opinion is reading the beach as that changes all the time and mastering the little details that make the difference between lunkers and dinks, a few fish or a major haul.  Thats where the learning curve is so I feel your spots will stay good for you while messing with newbs who gives it a shot.

Aaron, the readership here is still pretty small, this isn't the sniffer, and you
might have a crowd for a couple days but it will pass.

Sin Coast - I'm sure many of us (I speak for myself as well) newbie perch fishermen appreciate you posting those "secret" locations - and I can understand that others get pissed off because of that. The reality is that any die-hard fisherman can simply find so many ways to look for these "honey holes". The word of mouth spreads faster these days. You can blame the internet and google earth for that . Fisherman's Warehouse does seminars on Perch fishing ever since they opened...and guess what....all those spots have been mentioned at one point or another. (I know this cause I've been attending their seminars for a long time) But just because I know where it is...it does not mean I'll be there every weekend and fishing the same spot (but that's just me). I'm no fish biologist but I'm sure the perch are not endangered - and if they are, I'm sure laws will be put into place to protect them (I hope)

My message here is: if you want to share your secret spots - do so and the newbies will thank you for that....if you don't want to share, that's totally fine...but don't flame those who chose to share.....nobody can really control the flow of intel.....these days especially - the information is out there and those who want it bad will find a way to get it.

So "share" or "don't share" it's all good, let's just be kind to one another...life is short as it is

any spot that's more than a 100 yds walk will remain "secret" regardless of how much you publicize it. Just look at the beaches up here in Pt Reyes- they're all amazing 'percheries'- but its rare that you see someone else fishing on the beach- despite the things being posted all over the various boards.

The board here is to share info, and intel...if someone share's your "secret" spot-- go find another.

If you post a certain spot you have as Mooch said a bunch of bored fisherman looking for it on satelite I know I do, that's why some people I'm guilty of posting General areas like middle or upper Russian. I don't want to post some locations but I 'm happy to share if you come up or PM me, just don't ask me about my Secret Lure or or my Secret Roe Cure
