Well we did it again only better.  4th year in a row for people's choice winner, 3rd overall for most tasted 1585 served, and for the first year we got some judging love and took first place with the judges.  Then they drew for 2 free plane tickets to anywhere and they pulled our team.

Santa Cruz chowder festival.

4 Men and a Clam

I make this chowder  for other club events, cancer walks, and different local events. and sure would like to bring some to a ncka event some day.  It's easy to make and it seems people like it.

Oh and were the only team that goes ( we went 2 weeks back ) to Lawson's landing and dig our own clams each year.  Fun family day indeed.

Man, sorry we missed it this year!  Your guys's Chowder was certainly our favorites the two times we went!  Congrats on winning the people over once again with your delicious clams!  :smt003

Sounds like an amazing accomplishment. Wish I was able to be there to try it for myself.

Congratulations, especially for digging your own clams for it.

I'm presuming the recipe is secret, but do you have an basic recipe you'd recommend for us normal folks when we dig a mess of gapers?

Just a couple secrets but it is such a simple recipe.  It's more how you put it all together.

With the clam just treat them like a huge clam.  Necks and bodies all go in the chowder all diced up.

I will give you one excellent tidbit.  Better than bullion clam base is your friend, just don't over do it. It's really rich and gives you the winning flavor...

Thanks for the tips! When you say the body goes in, are you including the stomach contents (yikes!), or just the muscular parts?

Simple just get all the black out and your good.  No black, no sand and your ready to go..  The bodies really add a nice clammy flavor...
