Not really a dinner spot, but it's hard to beat the carved turkey sandos at Gracie's Delicatessen in San Carlos.

Tonight was my pick and I chose "Claw Shack" on Berryessa in San Jose. We had never been there before but it had rave reviews and nothing on our list sounded appealing. It's a Cajun style restaurant with an Asian twist.

i always wondered about that place (pass by it everyday).  tough finding good places to dine in our area :(

Good post.  We often stay in Morgan Hill so this gives us some good places to check out.

True. I guess that's about a 4 hour drive with your traffic down there. [emoji13]

Morgan Hill:
Odeum - it's a tad on the fancy side, but you can save some pennies at lunch. (their namesake gyro, skirt steak, and kurobuta chop are all favorites of mine, but I would recommend going off-script and trying the chicken and kalamata olive waffles... yup, I said chicken and waffles at a mediterranean restaurant);
Laderra Grill (if you're lucky enough to find the orange roughy on the menu, order it, but do be cognizant that the roughy fishery has concerning sustainability issues);
Maurizio's (Fiocchi - pear and asiago pasta purses in a gorgonzola cream sauce... don't be afraid to order completely off menu here, you can literally ask for any dish and they'll prepare to your order with the ingredients they have. Old school!)

Los Gatos:
The Lexington House - again, fancy, but worth the price for an occasional treat. Just be sure to get there as they open or the lines can be ridiculous. Order anything. Everything will please. Best brussel sprouts in the south bay. If I remember correctly, every Monday they have a limited supply of chef's choice burgers. Every Monday, it's something different.
The Bywater - new cajun and creole joint. I enjoyed their gumbo and $4 Dixie long necks tremendously. Big Jim will have to chime in on whether I'm crazy for mentioning those N'awlins Dixie beers. Recommend stopping by for a late lunch to avoid the crowds.
Jack Rose Libation House - more of a destination to wet your whistle, but the brunch and pub grub is satisfying. At the risk of losing my man-card, the Angel pizza with bacon is a solid choice.

San Jose:
holy hell... too many options... since I hit the fancy stuff hard above, some more modest favorites.
El Buen Gusto (on Berryessa Rd) - to date, the best burrito I've ever eaten has been their super burrito al pastor with the salsa verde. Great taqueria and mariscos menu. Absolutely horrible parking.
Burnt Rice - there are literally tens of better Korean food restaurants in the San Jose/Santa Clara/Cupertino area, but none of those serve Gangnam fries, seasoned french fries with kim chi and nacho cheese sauce. I'm embarrassed. Forget I even mentioned this.
Real Kabob - right across from the Gun Exchange, next to an International Bread store that I'm fairly certain could be a front for some nefarious business, you'll find the best koobideh in the south bay. They also marinade their chicken in some kind of yogurt magic. Get a classic combo plate with Persian rice and a grilled tomato and enjoy.

Campbell:
Brown Chicken Brown Cow - crispy prosciutto burger with brie and a side of cajun seasoned sweet potato fries. You're welcome.
Naschmarkt - was already mentioned, and is very good, but you'll find me at the Liquid Bread Gastropub across the street.
Orchard City Kitchen - trendy, but the options are unique. Do I see quail on the menu? Yes, I do. I'm a sucker for those tasty li'l bastards.

Sunnyvale:
Adamson's French Dip - definitely a lunch option since they can run out of choices as the daily wood fired meat selection gets used up. Prime rib dip gets most of the attention, but I prefer the plain ol' top sirloin. Potent horseradish.

Okay, that's it, the boss just walked in. Hope you find something you enjoy!

Hermitage brewery......although the hipsters have figured it out now so I'll be on the lookout for another spot soon.

And although buen gusto has great tacos and shrimp ceviche, nobody tops burritos from pink elephant.
