Meh, just remove limits on non-native fish below reservoirs. Pretty simple.

No, it certainly will not. Since the topic was delta smelt though, it would potentially help them out by allowing the mobs of bankys to bring home the scourge of little striper that infest the delta.

That's a good point. Not to get too far off subject, but what is the average length of breeding striped bass (male and female)? Anyone know?

Scourge of little stripers infesting the delta lol, I haven't seen that slogan on a socal farm banner yet.....must be new.

Anyway, i gotchya boss, our native desert variety almond and pistachio trees need water.  Our native green lawns in the desert need water.  Our native golf courses in the desert need water.  Our native death valley 10,000 unit suburb needs water.  Damn those non-native fish wreaking havoc on the ecosystem .....insert grumpy face.

It only became a "good point" when big ag started pointing the finger at them and sued the state to eradicate them.  It wasn't until that point did we see any anti-striper pushes for legislation and marketing.  Where was this line of thinking ten, fifteen years ago?

The whole non-native angle is a punitive measure on fisherman and environmentalist.....cause to we're the last line of defense.

A simpler solution would be to simply stop exporting so much water and adjust the way we live before completely fucking up the ecosystem. Yet thats not a consideration?

According to Moyle, females reach breading maturity at 45cm or 4-6 years and males are mature at 25cm or 2-3 years (some males can breed just after year one...those horny bastards)

Thanks for that info. I was wondering the same thing. So females are mature @ 17.5" and males @ 10". Interesting...because I would've assumed it was a higher number.

All valid points. As to native fish, I stand my ground. Pumping water to unsustainable human populations and big ag is not a solution either.

The problem started with damming and settling too many people on agricultural land. Put too many rats in the same cage with a finite amount of resources, and you got problems.
