We have a system of checks and balances to keep the government in order, not just the 2nd Amendment, and as I said before, I believe the government could do this to us regardless of whether we are armed. Most people like guns because they like guns and use the tyrannical oppression defense as a crutch.

Also, social media is a huge outlet that we have now that didn't exist then. The world didn't even hear of the holocaust until after the war, and many people didn't believe it was true for long after that. If this occurred today in the US, videos would spring up on FB like wildfire, and international pressure would likely help stop it. Look at the police. They're under massive scrutiny because of cell phone cameras and YouTube videos depicting abuse. Same would happen if Hitler became president.
