BWE reports from their 2.5 day trip earlier this week.

"Lot's of smaller grade yellows and some up to about 30 pounds. Handful of halibut, lots of bass, whitefish, rockfish stuff like that. Fun trip! Good weather! Good people. The crew worked their asses off for this trip."

"Tony summed it up well. The crew was awesome. The food incredible, the wind was the only issue. Caught a bunch of calico's, small grade yellows and lost a couple of large yellows. One right at the yak when the 30lb yellow I was ready to gaff pulled the 40lb fluorocarbon leader right onto the mirage drive fins and broke off the leader. The second when I was fighting it in 100' of water and gaining line the frickin Ultra fishing boat pulls up 35 yards behind me and drops his anchor. That Asshole, the noise made my fish sound straight down and pulling hard on my tightly adjusted drag when at the bottom he wrapped me up in some rocks and I could never get it loose, finally had to break the 65lb braid. The trip was awesome and I can't wait for the next one. What a way to break in my Hobie Revolution 13. Thanks OEX and Islander."

For the live bait are you tying the leader to braid or using a swivel? How long of a leader are you using?

ITS getting close!!! Cant wait to make the drive down!!!  What beers do they keep stocked?????  =)

They had a IPA from Ballast Point Brewery, a local company.  I enjoyed a few of those @$5 each.

On our trip they had: Coors Light, Bud Light, Budweiser, MGD, Pacifico, and Coronado Brewing co Islander IPA. Domestics were $3 and imports were $5. I also brought a small soft-side cooler that I kept in my room with a 12-pack...to take on my kayak while fishing.

Braid to 25lb or 30lb flouro to 1/0 live bait hook. No hardware. Use uni to uni or similar knot to connect braid to flouro. Not sure leader length matters. I had hella long leaders because I just wound a bunch of flouro on each of my reels. I'd imagine 3' would be fine.

To pack a net or not pack a net? I noticed in the pictures most people didn't have one.

Vic, psyched you're going, man we're going to have a blast! I'm bring a small folding net inside my yak but the gaff will be the landing tool of choice for me on these yellows. Get some!

Did not see many nets. If you're into yellowtail, better to gaff than net.

I lip-gripped my biggest, but it was only ~14lbs. All the rest I just grabbed the leader and pulled 'em in.

I also brought a pair of the "Albion Gloves" with me and kept the right one handy, so if I got a big YT I was gonna slip that glove on real quick and tail it.
