The lock on my driver's side door won't open. The fob used to always open it if the key wouldn't, now it doesn't work either. The lock goes up partway but not enough to allow opening. This is a 2004 Tacoma. It's getting pretty annoying getting in and out from the passenger side, and it's only been 24 hours.
Anyone suffer this before? Any advice?

If it feels like it's sticking, try graphite powder. Otherwise it may require removing the door panel.  :smt013

Can you figure out how to take the door panel off to see what's going on in there. Probably just needs a shot of lube.

Dim Sum or Water Torture - one or both in combination usually gets a FOB to cooperate

Shoot some PB Blaster in the gap around the door lock and lever. Wiggle them and hopefully some lube will get to the dry spots.
Or you could use dynamite.

With the first issue. More than likely it is a door lock actuator. ( lock not raising with key fob or power lock in interior ) With the second issue now occurring, it now sounds like your door cylinder lock is going bad. ( tumblers inside just wear out ) Guessing without seeing.

pretty much all that system is incorporated in the latch mechanism. If the solenoid (actuator ) fails it can cause your symptom. Locks up  :smt003 and nothing works. If your handy. Go buy the lock actuator and replace. should fix it right up... Not handy, Go to shop....

Yeah, can't even open from the inside. The knob comes up halfway but not enough to unlock.
I'm going to try lubing the keyhole.
All this and it's hella raining.

My 2000 gmc did the same thing. I didn't have the funds for a new actuator so I removed the door panel and disconnected the rod that connects the lock and the actuator. It still works fine with the key just no more power locks for a while.

Gently thump (not hard enough to dent, but almost :smt044 ) the area of the latch while using the key or fob. sometimes will pop it then DON'T lock it till you replace it/// :smt006

Spray that stuff everywhere you can. If you can get the straw in between the glass and rubber, and spray down at the lock tumbler, that might help too. Door handles usually have gaps you can squirt through. Make sure the window is up or you'll have a mess!

Did you change your battery in the fob papi!  I would think that the fob would open it even if the cylinder was jacked.  I bet it was the guys in the red jeep....
