It may help a little with some increased knowledge, But for the most part I think the problems with (some) power boaters isn't a lack of knowledge, and that's as nice as I can put it.


One snag I can think of is how difficult will it be to get the course/ test/card when you want one.

Eventually you'll be required too unless you're older than I think you are and plan on being dead by 2025.

Anyone 20 years old and younger will be required to have the card to drive a boat, starting Jan. 1, 2018. Each following year, the requirement age will be raised: 2019 (25 years old), 2020 (35), 2021 (40), 2022 (45), 2023 (50), 2024 (60), 2025 (everybody).

yeah, i mean even if i'm not required to "yet".  i wouldn't have to do it until 2021 based upon the requirements.

I just got my motorcycle endoresment.  I familiarized myself with the permit test questions in about an hour of watching YouTube videos of the test.  I spent a three day chp crash course "learning" how to safely operate a motorcycle.  I didnt really learn anything that wasn't common sense already and there were at least a dozen inept people that shouldn't be allowed to ride a freakin razor scooter but passed anyway.  I can't imagine a boating course is gonna be any differrent.

Boattests101.com,  yes it is bs. and another source to raise revenue, But just maybe it will make somebody think twice before they put their passengers in jeopardy.  Mostly common sense but some interesting facts too.  I fall into the oldest age group, but decided to take it for the hell of it.  Usually do it on cell phone during commercials!

I don't see any reason it should be any different than a car, truck or motorcycle.  You are placing yourself, your guests, other boaters and first responders in possible jeopardy.
