Was thinking about launching out of New Brighton SB near Capitola on Sat. morning around 8:00AM.  Anyone interested in fishing the kelp beds with me?  Parking doesn't open till 8 so I'm going to try and be there then.  Low tide at 7:20 high tide 1:20, weather is looking good so far.  Will most likely fish till 1:30 or so.  Will have my VHF monitoring 69.

Hey Brett, I'm game to join you.  Looks like a decent day, but the swell is twice as big as the last time I launched from new brighton.  I'll most likely launch from the harbor since I have a launch pass there.   Don't mind paddling out towards new brighton.  I'm in the process of ironing out the kinks in my livewell, so may not have live bait, squid should catch fish worth eating though.  Either way lets get on some fish.

I'm down to launch from the harbor.  Frozen bait for me, no live well.  I'll will have to warn you this will be only my second time in the ocean on the yak.  Very much a rookie when it comes to rockfish fishing and will probably ask lots of questions.  What site do you get swell info from?

I wouldn't launch from NB unless the marine forecast improves. The swell is up, with a long period south component. Good day to surf though. The harbor or Cap wharf should be ok though.

No worries on being a newb, I wasn't even salty with the pacific water till a couple months ago.  We've all gotta start somewhere.  Just wanna make sure that you've got all the safety gear needed, you know what they say about having and not needing.

Cen coast is right about the swell and NB.  The harbor is easy, and close to the same price for parking.

7:30 sounds good to me.  Looks like there may be some other kayakers coming to the area since the weather is a bit much along the coast.  Maybe they'll sound off....

I'll be there early to rig my yak. I also need to cruise to Bayside for fresh squid and bait.  Looking to be a wonderful day.

Any luck? I'm thinking about trying SC tomorrow and was wondering whether I should bring my WSB, halibut, bonito, or BFT gear...

Not a bit of luck for us today.  Not a whole lot of action reported at the docks either.  CDFW mentioned that not many fish had came in as of 12:30.  Either there weren't any fish in our area or they weren't hungry.  Great day on the water though with minimal wind, until we wanted to come in.

My thought is this weather that will be here on Sunday night, has all the fish slowing down, not to mention the fact that we're a few days past the full moon.

TL:DR - There's no fish in Santa Cruz  :smt013 :smt005 :smt044

Bonito are abundant, big ones too... bring your fly line setups for both WSB or Bonito... Almost certain the Halibut bite is off for the remainder of the year...
