I sent an email to SC Co parks because I couldn't find an answer...but in the meantime, does anybody know if it's legal to kayak Coyote Creek? Specifically, the area upstream of Metcalf in the Parkway area.

Nearby, free, and there isn't anywhere else to go locally...I think Calero is the only option in the southbay right now.
But yeah, I will probably never do it  :smt044

Doubt it, but not totally sure.  There are a couple of parking lots on Monterey Road that are near by that stretch, but I seem to recall lots of fences around the water accessible spots.  It's really close by my work, can drive over and check it out sometime for ya.

The quarry ponds off Olgier are technically part of Coyote Ck. And I thought there was a law allowing people to kayak rivers that are 'navigable waterways' or something. So I'm just curious if that means we can paddle to the ponds...or just launch right into the ponds. I know we'd have to use barbless hooks etc...

Navigable has a legal definition, I doubt coyote creek meets the mq's.

I used to drag my yak down to those ponds to fish the evening bass bite in the spring and summer after work.  Pretty sure they banned watercraft right after 9/11....thanks a lot Obama bin Laden.

Anyone hit Lexington lately?  I drive by it twice daily, it's really low!
Isn't Coyote closed to the public at one end where it narrows (Private property or some such thing?)  Or was that Calero?

I live just up the hill from Lexington, and it's been closed forever, or so it seems...

Reminds me of san justo reservoir. Great little place to trout fish. Until they got the quaga or zebra mussels. Been closed almost a decade now.

It seems that the plan is to open it up again when/if there is more water. But I don't get why the amount of water makes that much difference.

Google and Check out "Friends of Coyote Creek"
There have been some work parties to clean the waters.etc
I believe a couple times a year there is a paddle scheduled to get the word out and get support for the creek?

According to SC Co Parks & Rec, they are cleaning up the area around Parkway Lake with the intent of opening it to the public. I bet there are still some nice fish inside there.
But as far as kayaking the creek...it's completely dry right now:
