water is real clear right now, perch to 2lbs being caught...

Were you surfing there? I've heard it can be sharky when the river's flowing out.

Got a question too: Is the river flowing out yet? I heard it busted through the sand burm last week. If so, its steelhead time! And it usually turns on the big perch bite.

that was a week ago. it was not busted through then I think.

sharky? it's always sharky! I actually surfed moss landing proper that day. of course that is the one
place I have seen a shark in the water that was big enough to be scary.

That area is great for surfperch.I've even caught stripers and leopard shark in the surf from Salinas river.In fact, I caught my largest barred perch just south of there at Marina Dunes.

One trick I've learned working the beaches for perch is walk/jog the beaches at low tide and look for holes/deeper spots inside the surf line that will hold fish about an hour before max high tide.Those will be the honey holes when the jumbos come in to feed.I've also been looking for areas of relatively steep beach that form undertoe, creating sandcrab highways during the incoming high tide.

It also helps living less than a mile from one of my favorite stretches of perch real estate

Alien,I'm down to go perchin' this week.Let me know when you're free (preferably an hour or two before a daily high tide).
I have beach keys/parking pass for oceanview and the rivermouth at Manresa and live really close.

I also picked up a sign-up for Sandcrab on March 3rd at Angler's Choice.I'll drop my check off soon as this year will fill up quick!

Alien, yeah, I will be trying your advice on the frying. I need to keep the fish colder
after I catch them too.

my other plan is to try smoking the perch.

might sound strange, but I had good success smoking blue and black rockfish this summer
so I want to try that on the perch.

it seems like since they are sweet and white, but a little less firm than some fish, they should
smoke up pretty good as the curing process will firm them up. plus a few minutes with the
pliers after smoking should handle the bone issue too, if the bones don't just get dissolved
in the curing process.

well, that's my plan anyways!

ha, looks like I got a previous engagement: bday party for my younger son. he has been asking when he gets
to go fishing, but his mom might not be too happy with a no show at his own party.

His MAF would be way low! 

If I fish saturday I will post up with how I do, it has been awhile, but maybe I will locate a few dinks anyways,
but I know that I am a ways a way from the slab finding talents of alien and aaron!

Okay, next time. the tide dosent look to good that day anyways but i'll be out scouting the shores with rod in hand.

Alien, I agree the tide doesn't look right (unless you hit it before dawn).Where are you thinking about scouting.I might be able to get away Sunday morning. Perhaps Marina SB (AKA Marina Dunes)?

I think you guys will catch fish anyway, high tide is easiest but they are there most of the time,
or at least the dinks are, I don't know about the big ones.
