I'm curious if there are some folks out there interested in getting together for some surf zone practice? No gear, just you and your yak and a wet suit of course. I wanted to get out and play around to see what I can and can't do in the surf. There's no substitute for experience. Figured it would be fun to meet at a beach, go get dumped, and pitched around, then have a lunch. Better to learn this stuff, BEFORE you enter the surf with your fishing gear. Hopefully someone with experience willing to share would also come. Any interest?

I'll be down here the weekend of the 27th. Depending on weather etc... I might be able to do an early morning surf session on Sunday 1/28. Maybe combined with a short crab soak? I'd have to be off the water by early afternoon in order to meet wife (to build up WAF) for lunch in HMB.

I spoke to Vince from Aquan Sports (San Carlos) regarding surf classes / self rescue....he just recently hired a sponsored white water expert who has also done time Ocean touring (I met her and she's really cute :smt007) and so we will put together some dates just for the NCKA community - at a very minimal cost. As far as location, we may try Linda Mar or HMB / surfers beach but it's not official yet. Hang tight and we'll get a date going.

FYI: Aquan also rent kayaks - just incase some of you want to test paddle Ocean Kayaks.....

I would really benefit from a practice session or two. Or three. I find myself picking my belongings out of the surf more often than I would like for the last few summers.
There is definitely something to be said for testing the limits of your boat without gear, though I'll contemplate strapping some means of weight to the back.

Sounds fun, I'm in.
