I like your way of thinking Doug. I got your back anytime brother. and anyones else who needs it. I've dealt with many situations like this in my past and believe me, it may not be pretty but to stand by and do nothing is far worse to live with. Glad to hear it worked out the way it did though. Life's too short, do it with caution.

Again, neither of you have a clue about what happened and you're blowing it out of proportion. It's not as simple as you, Crash, would like it to be. You have no idea what the atmosphere leading up to the incident was like. I was there just minutes before this happened. Dude didn't just walk up out of nowhere and pull a knife on somebody. We weren't just all sitting around a campfire holding hands and telling stories and dude suddenly jumps up and pulls a knife. There was A TON of drunken, macho, idiocy going on and knife dude just took it one step too far.

The simple fact is neither you, Crash, nor Sasquatch would have done a thing that night, because both of you guys would have left long before the incident occurred due to the drunken tomfoolery that was going on long before that. Just like lots of others chose to.

Even reading Danglin's post can be taken out of context. I was there when that happened. I saw Danglin almost smash the dude for his beaner comment. But, what even Don doesn't know is he walked up RIGHT when pretty much everyone in that little circle was calling each other racial slurs. WHF's friend and Andy had been going at it all day. Rough housing and talking shit, as anyone who knows is standard procedure with some of us. That's why some people avoid our little circle and others love it. Read Cabeza de Martillo's post. He pretty much summed it up. He was there.

I am a Kayak Fisherman....no more no less. Sometimes people have fun bullshitten one way,,,,when others have never done it that way and see it as crazy.

So I will tell you the way it went down wasn't in my mind just a little flashing of the knife. He held it up and pointed it at me like he was ready for me to make a move. Who knows what would've happened if I made a different decision and engaged him. I don't even want to go there.

If I felt the threat to continue as I was walking away I may agree that LEO should be involved. But this ended as I walked away and the next day I told him to leave my camp and he did without incident. I stand behind my decision to handle it the way I have. I do not want this individual at another event because of this incident. Joking or not things could've went totally different had I not walked away and that's why I don't want him around.

Like I said I will not let it get to this point around me again. Chocking this one up as a learning experience.

You did the right thing for sure......a better man knows to walk away......kickin him out of your camp was also a good move. We dont all need to be friends, just respect each other. If you act a fool, you'll be branned a fool. 

As far as I can tell, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Rider was the only person there besides "the Russian" when the ADW occurred.  If someone else was, they haven't yet shared their story.  The stories that have been shared were from earlier in the evening and all universally condemn the Russian for being an unpleasant person to be around and generally killing the vibe of the evening.

As far as why I care- I go to these events often enough.  I sometimes bring my family.  I want events to be safe.  If something happens like this, that is a violent assault associated with participants of the event, then I care very much.  It shouldn't happen, and every step should be taken to make sure it doesn't happen. Someone behaving like the Russian was is a near lock to have priors, be on searchable probation, parole, or have current warrants.  Notify the police, and go on about your weekend.  Let them handle the violent thugs.

My tolerance for this kind of bullshit is not very high.

Although I do see your point, I strongly disagree with it. I was nearly agreeing with Crashes comments, not trying to get in a pissing match. Remember, "The waters cold, yeah, and deep too". I just saw this thread this morning. Boy this really escalated quikly. There has been some extremely non factual things said, to say the least. I brought a coworker to simply because he wanted to go. Hes not loud at work like that at all. Yall think I dont know how annoying that was too? I heard of the incident sunday morning as I was passed out in the trailer sat night, boots on. And after talking to alex about it on the way home sunday he didnt mean any harm or seriousness by it. James did on the other hand and james and i have since spoken about it. I have a 3 year old and family I like to take camping too so I get it. You live and you learn. Obviously not a candidate for future camping trips with me as more chill than that which im sure the people I did get to meet there can attest to. I brought a loudass, my bad.

It appears like you don't really know what your friend is really like.  You should vouch and be responsible for his actions for bringing him along.  I agree on the Stockwell approach.
