those look dope! you should visit a couple of the tournaments up north and put a few up for prizes. people would be stoked to win one and you'd get a lot of exposure.

So, is it just the five reels listed on the website? The MSRP seems a bit high to me, when compared to other favorites such as the Avets.  Kayak fisherman are a bit harder on gear than boater's, since we launch through surf, take waves over our bow, sit closer to the water, get a shower from fish splashing us, flipping over when landing, etc.  I tend to lean towards more inexpensive gear that can be replaced without having to cough up a lot of dough for this reason.

to be fair, avets and accurates don't have lifetime warranty. Of course you have to trust that truth will be in business long enough to honor the warranty.

I really do like the Truth SG - it seems like a great little reel for its $250 price and what it packs.  But I have read some reviews and they weren't 100% on board with the ceramic bearings vs SS bearings.  I've never spent more than $140 on a reel before, so I'm not sure if I'd be willing to make the extra step up in cost, but if I was fishing down south I'd definitely consider it.

That warranty alone could pay for itself with 1 failure.  Plus, they already include the higher end bearings & drag washers that could be a good upgrade for Avet costing another $100 alone

I have used Accurates, Shimanos, and Avets in the past.  Each have their ups and downs but the Accurate Twin Drag is the best mid-size tuna/yellow tail reel I've ever used.  Everything from the fit to the performance is perfect.  I have 4-5 Avets which I LIKE, but there is no comparison.  The free spool is not as balanced, occasionally the drag has slipped on me in the past, and the handle and reel itself isn't as comfortable in my hand.  Hopefully this reel [like its price] falls somewhere in between the Avet and the Accurate.  I am curious to see how these will stack up after some use.  Best of luck to you guys, I will be keeping an eye out for these!

The upgrades and warranties sound good, I'm not saying they aren't a good value or anything.  It's just that when something happens, like someone flipping over in their yak, or  like what happened to me: having your sail line just lift the rod out of your rod holder and into the drink, it would be pretty hard to cough up the dough to replace it.  However there are many people on this board that also do boating or charter fishing and are looking for high end toys to play with.  For kayaking in particular, I'm just more comfortable with cheaper options.  I've already got at least 1000$ at the bottom of the ocean right now  :smt044

I hear ya.  Kayak fishing DOES take its toll, not just on physical abuse, but loss as well. :smt010

Awesome! It's great to see you supporting the community. I've been in love with the SG since I first saw one in Prof. Salt/Glenn Madden's videos.

That said I'm just getting into the sport so I don't think I can justify $250 for my first reel, as amazing as it may be.

Let me know if you feel the need for a review from a total newb   :smt005

Norcal Kayak Anglers,

Truth Reels is coming to CA in 2016.  We are coming to the shows and tournaments.  If you have any good ideas for us to help build our brand in CA, please let us know.

We think our size of reel is perfect for CA fishing.  We also have new reels in the works.  We appreicate the customer we have out there now and are looking forward to many more!

Remember:   Our reels are each handmade and assembled by hand in VA.  They are 100% made in the USA.  They have a lifetime warranty.  We have ceramic boca bearings and carbon fiber drag washers out of the box!  No need to upgrade..we already built the reel with quality parts.

Hi Russ, welcome to NCKA.  I would humbly submit that you send a reel or two to Mr. Alan Tani. He is the Godfather of reel reviews, and upgrades. His site is http://alantani.com/

A review by him tells not just NCKA, but a slew of hard core fisherman world wide about your reels.  From South Africa, Australia, Japan, US, Canada, Europe. His posts on reel rebuilding is followed by numerous sites from Stripers Online, Pier Fishing, and other sites.
