A little further south and WSB and whales are there.

whales are everywhere. lol

so i must have read a ton of reports from Big Sur dating back years. what happened to all those people? do they still fish?

Yep.

Most just stopped posting locations and details on exactly where they fish online.

so basically there will not be any big sur group. Just SC, TC, MBK, HMB? I guess that is a good thing. =)

Almost forgot to say Nice Fish, Andres! That's so cool you got a bonito down there. I remember about 7yrs ago when I a huge school of them passed through our group of kayaks, jumping like crazy...we thought they were albacore!! Until one of the guys finally landed one. But I don't think it was as big as the one you caught! Must've been a killer fight.

I love that stretch of coastline; it's my favorite place in the world (one specific spot, at least). So I love reading about it and will consume as much info as possible. I enjoy the reports & info. But, due to a number of different reasons, I am reluctant to post detailed info about it on the net. That's just me. This threadhttp://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=19682.msg198659#msg198659 and the following posts/arguments/threats/people that got deleted certainly factor into my reasons for posting less.

I'm not going to tell someone else what to do though. Each member can make their own decisions and share whatever info they want.
Everything on here is cyclical; including trends, ideas, gear, or places to fish...so one area will get popular for a while as people post successful reports and other report-chasers follow them until the area is no longer producing...then it's on to the next "hot bite." From 2005-2008 Big Sur was popular. It will be the popular spot again some day. It's a beautiful area with good variety of fish. But honestly, it's not that great of a fishing spot. I can't speak for other people as to why they stopped posting Big Sur reports & info but I assume it's for similar reasons as myself. Also, for me it's a question of why should I drive an hour & half south on a narrow windy road when I can catch the exact same fish 15 minutes away?

You're right Pat,  This is my typical catch 15 minutes from your house.

I remember Brendan - the lost coast pirate. His extremely vocal and over the top expressions of opinion managed to get him banned. It probably has contributed to people being less forthcoming. The most interesting part of that link to me was the attendee list. A number of names I haven't seen post for a while Aaron = sad memory.  Stoggie - where you been bro? Calbear? Littoral? Dillbeck?
Then there was that crazy SCAllen guy  :smt002  :smt005

Cen Coast,

I just read that whole thread that was brought back to life.  All I can say is wow.  Very different opinions about fishing locations and now I know why so many hesitate to post specific location reports.

I still like to see the occasional post from areas I have not been to or may only get to once a year or longer.  Participating in AOTY/DOTY sure does challenge folks to try new spots.  I am sure some don't like participating in those either as they think it will lead to over harvesting.

I don't believe either will or has led to over fishing so not worried about it.

Some of the recent videos from Big Sur show rough launches and many of the same fish that I am seeing up north two minutes from my house.  So don't worry about me going down there and over fishing it.  But even if I do go I may keep a fish or two but won't limit out because I can.

Big Sur is a big area so posting cool pics is not going to cause overfishing.

Most everyone I have fished or dove with are selective on what they like to eat and most just take a few and not a whole limit just because they can.

I would rather catch my own fish than buy it from the store.  Commercial harvesting has way more by catch and equals no fun value for me.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks again for posting a Big Sur report.

wow that link was hard to read and swallow but I'm not going to let 1 person or a couple discourage me from going there and posting my reports from past history. nobody owns the water. I can fish anywhere i wish or any honey hole i find that belongs to someone else. i don't have to be local to fish there.

There are pro's and con's of fishing BS. I know the risk but I also know the rewards. and the drive is spectacular. I know how it feels to loose honey holes that you scout and put time and effort into them. I do share some info but not everything.

if that link was the main reason why there are no hook-ups for BS then we need to be stronger as a whole. just because 1 bad apple fell off the tree does not mean the whole apple tree is bad.let's make fishing enjoyable all over cali.

I don't know how accurate reserve-america is but If someone adds a camp site they want but still deciding about it and have not paid that site is consider booked and gray out.
don't know how long before it is available again if no fee was paid.

Actually I posted the Location of WSB on CCKF because you guys are so far north. They were off leffing well hanging on the edges of kelp. North of landing between the two areas. I'm thinking someone may bring one in during Slam Down.

Well said, Pompano120.  Fishing should be fun and challenging.  There are plenty of fish in the water for everyone want to fish.  Some people do not want to reveal their sweet spot, I can understand that. But where is the challenge if you don't have any one fishing the same location as you.  I like to be challenged and the more people fishing at the same location, the challenge it will be and showing how good your fishing skill is.
