Went out today to big sur with my dad on his first saltwater trip. We were on the water for about 5 hours and caught tons of fish including a bonito and some nice verms. Bonito fought so hard I thought I had a ray or a shark lol. A wave ended up flipping us on our way in good thing we had everything tied down. Thank God for an awesome day otw.

Nice fish.  Seems like your odds of flipping a kayak go up in that area.

Solid catch! Where did you launch out of in Sur? I need to get down there the next time the weather and swell is inviting enough to limit that chance of a roll over. It's never unavoidable though, as I watched a new friend surf in a kayak in "1-2ft swell" at BH and roll over like a champion! His phone on the other hand I'm not so sure of...

never bring your phone or have it in a waterproof bag and make sure it floats. I'm saying this because I lost one myself. lol

way to go Andy. nice haul. I still think the drive and risk is definitely worth the reward fishing down there. the only thing I hate is getting sick and coming home with mediocre catches with he expectation so high. ARGH!!!

I caught the bonito on a small piece of squid and launched around Mill Creek wasn't too rough just the landing caught us off guard worth it for sure though

Mill creek beach the waves hit further out so timing and speed is the key to a successful landing.
i've been in those waves before and it can be nasty.
