Looks like one of those unmanned wind/wave reporting devices that sail around our coastline.

At first I thought it was a sail on a submerged kayak.  Then maybe  someone had a GoPro mounted on the bow. As the diver towing it got closer You could see what a weight belt and Ab limit in the bow  will do to a flooded kayak.  This divers 76th birthday dive.  Tough dude to bring that in.

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

I can guarantee that guy has been through much worse than that. Looks like he was prepared too. He had a wetsuit, snorkel, and fins to boot. Scary? What am I missing here? Conditions looked good to attempt what he did. He was going to have to swim in either way so why not try and bring the boat in too? Just goes to show, they just don,t make em as tough as that generation. My hats off to that fine example of a real man. Happy Birthday stranger.

You didn't get the guy's name by any chance?

I recently talked to the guy who started me freediving and he said he was still getting out, heart bypass and all

Would be about the right age

Chuck S, up there in the top competition spear fishing world wide and one of the early calif coast guys going deep by standards then, like 130'. Partner w Kapansky on spearfish team and some of the other well known names can't remember at the moment

Hulicat captain Tom Mattusch was part of that crew, we were just talking about it yesterday

There was also a guy about 90 up in mendo county who was still getting his abs

He hung out at the top of a trail down to the water and would collect $5 to let you go through his land, kept all his gear down at the bottom of the trail
