Hello All

I just found your board and thought I would introduce myself.  I am a fisherman of 40+ years and a kayaker of 20 years.  I have NOT done much kayak fishing in my life...that is changing now.  I grew up saltwater fishing the coast of Maryland...started at age 3.  I moved to the west coast and learned to fly fish...and have been doing that for 20 years.  I was mostly a whitewater kayaker for 15 years...class IV+-V.  Then my life changed in a number of ways.  Wrecked my back and had a couple of beautiful children.  Now, I am shifting gears.  I have a really nice Hurricane SOT fishing kayak(North Carolina Company that I used to work for).  I live outside Sacramento but have been spending a fair bit of time over on the coast.

Came to this board hoping to meet some folks, get some advice and learn as much as I can.  Of course, at some point in the learning curve...I hope to contribute in sharing the information and help.

I am planning a trip to Monterey in a couple of weeks and plan to fish out of my kayak for 2-3 days for rockrish and lingcod.  Anyone going to be in the area?  Got any advice?  I will be camping while I am there.

Hope to hear from some of you...and look forward to being part of the community.

Fish_ON! Hope to see you on the water.

Btw, I lived in MD for 7.5+ years but didn't get to do a lot of fishing while there...

Welcome to NCKA. Post hook ups when you get your dates confirmed and folks will usually try to go out with you or at least point you in the right direction.

Would like to thank you all for such a warm and welcoming response.  I really had no idea what to expect and y'all blew me away.  It's been a very long week with young kids, sickness etc...and it's late.  I will be posting again this weekend and in touch with some of you about my trip details as well.  I did manage some time at my vise tonight tying some shrimp flies that I am extremely pleased with the way they came out.  Can't wait to put them in the water and feel that first tug!

Thanks again...

Btw, I'd be interested to hear more about your kayak. It looks like the new Hurricane kayaks might give Eddyline a run for their money...

Right on, welcome to the club!
Is that Hurricane one of the old Phoenixhttp://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=63965.msg719574#msg719574 models? I've only seen a handful of them around here but they look pretty slick. They recently started producing some new models that look interesting too.

From your message, it sounds like you're planning to fish Wed/Thursday. I can't do mid-week, but it sounds like a couple other people can go. The easiest option is probably launch from the harbor and fish off the Cannery Row area. Or Stillwater Cove in Pebble beach.
Where you camping at?

Thanks Cen Coast

Yes, I have an older model Hurricane Pheonix.  I used to work for the company for a couple of years.  It isn't that big 160 though.  I have a 130...I would rather the 140...but my 130 has a rudder which I find very helpful for tracking on the smaller boat.

I think that I have found at least one experienced paddler to join me...but things fall through even when you know folks so I am still hopeful to find a paddling buddy for this trip just in case.

Thanks for the launch suggestions.  I was planning on the harbor if I go solo.  If I go with others, I will see what they want to do as well.

Planning to camp at Veteran's Park up the hill.  We camped there with the wife and kids the last time down that way...It seems to be the closest and least expensive option as well.
