Hahahahh, not at my wallet either. Gotta do it though. At the end of the day, still WAY cheaper than running my Bass boat or cruiser all day... I can't even EAT fish! Madness is the only real explanation. Only known cure too :smt044 Then there are the associated POTLUCKS :fat
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I always think the same thing when I dont catch much fish and loading back to go home..

I mainly do it for fish.   I ate fish I have never ate before kayaking.  Mackinaw, Ling, golfer.   I also love the ocean even when I screw up on the surf and lose my things.

I have seen wales and dolphins that people OOO   ahhhh  for from land.

Really like catching or hope to catch fish I never hooked before..   Many more to go.

Golfer?

lol.. Gophers.

Your guys' therapists and bail bondsmen must be cheaper than mine...  :smt002

And...of course....I don't usually mess around with jigs and bait and what not, and usually spear shafts last a good long time and you can get a fair amount of fish death out of each one....

Ultimately, I’m a fisherman.  I strive to become a better fisherman.  A kayak offers more possibilities compared to being stuck on the shore, so that’s how I first got into kayak fishing.  A lot of additional work comes with it, but I’m cool with that because the potential rewards outweigh the additional work.

As I gained experience in kayak fishing, I started comparing it to powerboat fishing.  Powerboats are often viewed as the “ultimate tool” in fishing—used as a sort of benchmark for all non-powerboat anglers to gauge their success on a given day.  That’s when the challenges of kayak fishing really appealed to me.  When something becomes easy, it’s no longer interesting.  Like you described Darius, there are all sorts of unique challenges that come with kayak fishing.  It’s all those challenges that keep me interested.  Checking surf conditions, scouting potential launch sites, picking out launches according to the wind forecast for a given day, determining what gear you need and what you can do without in your limited cargo space…the list goes on and on.  If it weren’t for that long list of challenges, I’d probably lose interest in the sport.

Though to be honest, since I prefer freshwater fishing over saltwater, I get to dodge a lot of the stuff you mentioned about surf conditions, cleaning a bunch of fish, cleaning all the gear, worrying about sharks, etc.  Still, FW has its challenges (especially those snowy winter days with 36 degree water  :smt003).

Long ass days are what I get out if it!
Sat I got up at 4:15 am and by the time I finished processing the fish it was near 11 pm!
But it was so fun catching those Lings, healthy food( I calculated that the 17-18 lbs if fillets would have cost $288)
Maybe we're a little loco too?

I do it because I'm an addict and fishing off my kayak is the best way for me to get my fix.  Every time I paddle out I think this is it, I'm gonna get the big one.  And sometimes I do!  Countless days I'm burnt and ready to go in but I have to make just one more drop, and then one more, and then one more.

All the friends and hook ups and potlucks are great but if none of you were here I'd still be out there making one more drop.

Simply addicted, first as an angler raised in a long line of anglers, but the discovery of this forum
And kayak fishing has added the challenge as extra fuel for that fire that continues to burn within. I hope I'm never satisfied. it's that mystery, challenge and addiction that make the perfect cocktail for madness!

There's just something about being on the water, up close and personal to nature, and inserting yourself back in the food chain!   :shark

And I enjoy bringing the catch home to the family so they can enjoy the freshest of the fresh.

Being on the water.  Fishing is great and catching the ONE is fantastic, but there is some innate drive to be in the water, to be away from phone and computers and cars and noise!  It me and the boat and the waves and the water and the wind....I ask myself every time why?  "This is so much work!  Maybe I won't go again". But I'm aching to go again two days later.

Then there's the look on people's faces when you tell them fish in the ocean from a kayak.  "What! Your crazy!"  I love that too.
