From Humboldt tuna club : Shark at Trinidad 7/18/15
July 18, 2015 A shark tipped over both our Kayaks off Trinidad Head Sunday It may have been after the Salmon we just caught. It probably was the 12 foot White that was hassling the Kayakers at Black Rock that day
Oh, nothing to worry about...just a shark "tipping over multiple kayaks"?!!! Sound like bs to me. If it's real then it should be reported to the pelagic shark research foundation (or whoever tracks that kind of stuff) because that would be extremely rare and definitely noteworthy...if a GWS "tipped over" multiple kayaks.

Pretty unusual this event didn't get reported by the local news agencies.

Been hearing about several shark attack around the state. Started reading about the shark shield. Does anyone have and use one. Pro's and con's appreciated. Don't really think about sharks enjoying fishing from kayak. I know they could be around. Just curious. Thanks for the input.

Just be aware of how close the shark actually has to be to even know you have one. <3'

If it had tipped me over I don't think I'd be heading straight to the news stating. There isn't much of a news station around here anyways. Though there are kids sometimes playing in the surf when it's low it doesn't even compare to Capitolas visitors. If the waters salty....

Bingo.  IMHO, this doesn't fall in the same category as "attack".  Being "followed" & "startled" to the point you fall off are not on the same wavelength as "attack"

I get it. I'm just saying it would be extremely rare for a GWS to tip-over 2 kayaks within close proximity of each other. In the 10+ years I've been researching shark attacks, I can't recall another situation where that happened. So, to me, it seems noteworthy and it should be reported to the Shark Research Committee or some agency that catalogs shark encounters. http://www.sharkresearchcommittee.com/pacific_coast_shark_news.htm

I have a sharkshield and I used it diving a few times. I had the thing wrap around my neck as I did a stupid U turn maneuver. It definitely works on humans. Kind of like a low level electric shock. No super painful but unpleasant.

I'm still on the fence about buying one. Too bad the guy that attempted to swim from the Golden Gate to the Farallones didn't wear one (aborted the swim today due to a GWS).  Maybe his training partner will use one when she makes her attempt.

It would be a good test and would convince me pull the trigger.

Me and my family spent July 16-19 in Trinidad camping and kayaking. Fishing was super slow. The swell was up pretty high on Thursday and Friday especially. We dropped crab traps right between prisoner rock and the bell on Friday the 17 and checked them thru out the day on the 17, 18 and 19. We never saw anything amiss our heard anything from anyone at the beach or pier. I would think word would spread pretty quick. Some of my family went on a charter boat on Saturday and they said there was no word of it on the radio at none there captain heard of. That whole weekend the weather was rough enough falling off a kayak would be easy even without a nudge from below

Well, I will try to video any shark encounters for the non believers.  No pic didn't happen right.  Except when kayaks have shark bites and teeth in them or someone loses their life or limb is the only time picture proof is not needed.  My luck he will eat my camera.  As for media attention I want nothing to do with that.  If ever I report a sighting it will just be for information so others can decide if they want to go out.  I have no desire being interviewed or harassed for statements.

Be safe out there.

I hope we get more info from the two yakers! I was fishing Trinidad the 19th and 20th and had only heard of Cameron's sighting.

If two people were actually attacked the day before I prb wouldn't have gone out the next day and def not out alone. I understand not wanting to be bothered by the media/ in the spotlight but a friendly warning over any of these forums would have been nice. But at the end of the day I'm just glad everyone is ok [emoji16]
Work is for people who don't know how to fish

Cam posted his experience on LCKA and the guy on HTC was his first post there, some random unknown and the story is a little hard to believe. I didn't want to taint opinions here until a few people had responded to see if others felt the same way, and my feelings of suspicion have been confirmed.

I don't think the HTC posted attacks ever happened.
