Rented a Trident angler from the base for the weekend.  I went out with my dad from Malpaso creek last week which was a blast but the swell was to large for me in that boat.  I fished for about 30 mins then brought it in.  I managed to pick up 3 nice rockfish for dinner though!  I would have filled up but I spent most of my time trying not to fall out of the boat and admiring some enormous jelly fish.

Bushy, correct pidgin syntax here would be:

"you get one boat or what"

=)

I have gone out a few times lately from Carmel beach and south of point lobos MPA.  Such a great so sport!  My brother n law drove down from Oregon and we spent a few hours on the water last weekend. Was probably the best fishing I have ever done! Non stop rockfish action including a really nice vermilion that went back in.  On multiple occasions we had ling cod eating or rockfish on the way up then just hang out at the boat looking for a free meal! I had one nearly yank a small black off my hook multiple times leading to an unreleasable fish, the smallest kept of the day. After seeing the lings we swapped to large swimbaits and hammered them for a while.  Each of us caught 6-7 legal and kept two each. At least 3 were lost unintentionally do to my poor kayak fish handling skills :) went out the next day with my sister and had another great day but with much slower fishing.  The highlight was a big mola mola that nearly sent my sister flying back to shore.  Lots of good fish for the fryer/grill/smoker, but I think my favorite was rockfish ceviche! I am hooked, now just trying to decide between the predator mx or the prowler big game II

Great catch and thanks for sharing the story!  I'm sure you're family will be getting hooked as well.  Good luck with the kayak choice... so many great ones out there.

A word of caution on the ceviche... while the chances are low, you run a risk of getting sick/catching a parasite from raw rockfish.  They are parasite laden and the meat should be frozen at -4* for 7 days or -35* for at least 15 hours.

It's damn tasty though.. rockfish ceviche is awesome.

Thanks for the warning! If you cut it thin does the acid not kill parasites? I am very interested in staying parasite free!

You won't get sick,if for some reason your constantly hungry and eating all the time but your not gaining any weight might want to talk to your doctor
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
