Recent Color of Ocean along Central and North Coast

Last week in Mendo the ocean had a tropical-looking blue color to it out to about 40-50 ft depth, then a deeper blue beyond.  Was wondering what might be going on.  Interested to see this article.

There was an interview with a researcher from Hopkins Marine Lab on KTVU yesterday on the topic. Sounds like its a pretty odd occurrence nearshore and researchers don't really know why its happening (it also just happened in the Santa Barbara Channel about a month ago).

Water temps ? Changes in currents ? Nutrient availability ? Fukushima ?
