In rough conditions, won't the anchor crash into the stern like a wrecking ball?

It won't hit the hull unless it really rough when traveling anywhere but a river anchor will be in boat. Just back up grab the line and stow.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Sean,

You could easily make a tetragon anchor like that using sand casting.

Scott

Nope just mild steel....needs to be painted.  Mako1 (aka Juan) picked up a 10# drift boat anchor (like Mikes) for me and I tried it for a few today.  Worked SUPER.  I am gonna fish out of it tomorrow.

Sean what would be the typical length of ancor rope you would use on the river.

I forgot to say that I went with a little elevation off the top of the yak so I can use the metal bar as a handle also?

I had cabin fever after a bout with a virus. So after seeing Seans post I decided to rig my yak.I had a chunk of aluminum flat bar already so I got busy with my bandsaw and a drill.Amazingly the wood blade on my saw cut like butter.Trying to keep things smooth I used countersunk screws tapped into a matching plate under the deck.
I used 2 line guides and a cool little cleat that traps the line so you can one hand the in or out.All the hardware is sailboat stuff from the local Westmarine.
Next project was what to do about an anchor.Had some streetsign weight aluminum sheet,so I made a paper template and got busy with cutting and bending. My heliarc welder is currently out of service for aluminum welding. So I went to see a friend and I was ready to melt some lead.I weighed out 10# and put a pot on the old camp stove.
