My MH rods feel too heavy. What strength/ setup/ rods are you guys liking for rock fishing?

it all depends on what type and brand.an offshore or boat rod in mh is over kill for rf.but an inshore rod is a lot lighter.also the lenth will play a major roll also.in other words you have to be more specifc
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

MH is heavy for a 7' rod for rock cod, but not for larger lings. I have a 6'3" MH that will catch both rockfish and lingcod and feels sporty, people love the Shimano Trevalla M 7'.

Maybe in shore is worth a try.
It just feels like I wasn't feeling the early part of the nibbles and missing hook ups.
How about ML? Such thing exists?

yeah rods come in xxxh, xxh,xh,h,mh,m,ml,l,xl,xxl.all depends on the manufacturer.there is no specifc guideline for manufacturers to follow.example a cabelas brand xml heavy feels like a mh shimano crucial.your best bet is to go to a shop put a few in hand and write down the info and go home and see if you can find it cheaper online.ive used freshwater bass rods, inshore rods and boat rods.to me the most important was how it felt in my hand.so far the most popular here on this site is the shimano trevala in medium or medium lite.goodluck

I have a 15 year old 7' MH Abu Garcia BCX rod that came as a combo (since mildly upgraded reel) that is a blast for bottomfish. It has great taper, backbone and eyes. It's lightweight but has handled some big lings, medium hali and a few sharks to a little over 5'.

Trevalla is the only med rod I feel comfortable landing a twenty pound ling with

It lets the little guys feel big and the big guys feel little
It's magic in a rod

Yep and at about $100 its not the end of the world if you don't love it!

Got mine at OPS as well and the guy who assisted was very helpful and had the time to find what I was after.

Been using a ML Trevala for years now.
I've never had a problem landing big ling, rays, leopards or halibut with it.
Every fish feels big :smt003
